George Parker (astrologer)
George Parker (1654–1743) was an English astrologer and almanac maker, known as a controversialist. Life Born at Shipton-upon-Stour, Worcestershire, Parker was originally in business as a cutler in Newgate Street, London, and by upbringing Quaker. He then took a larger shop, but became bankrupt in 1693, and mistreated his wife and children. In 1698 he was keeping a tavern. His mathematical abilities gained Parker friends; it is said that Edmond Halley occasionally employed him. Edward Thwaites was one of Parker's supporters, and Thomas Hearne was a friend. He established himself as an astrologer and quack doctor at the "Ball and Star" in Salisbury Court, Strand; his presence offended John Partridge, who carried on a similar trade at the "Blue Ball" in Salisbury Street. George Safford Parker
George Safford Parker (November 1, 1863 – July 19, 1937) was an American inventor and industrialist. Parker was a telegraphy instructor in Janesville, Wisconsin, and had a sideline repairing and selling fountain pens. Dismayed by the unreliability of the pens, he experimented with ways to prevent ink leaks. In 1888, Parker founded the Parker Pen Company. The next year he received his first fountain pen patent. By 1908, his factory on Main Street in Janesville was reportedly the largest pen manufacturing facility in the world. Parker eventually became one of the world's premier pen brands, and one of the first brands with a global presence. George S. Parker High School in Janesville is his namesake. George Parker Bidder (21 May 1863 – 31 December 1954) was a British marine biologist who primarily studied sponges. He was the President of the Marine Biological Association (MBA) from 1939 to 1945. Life and career George Parker Bidder was born on 21 May 1863 in London, to barrister George Parker Bidder Jr. (1836–1896) and Anna McClean (1839–1910). His paternal grandfather was George Parker Bidder, an engineer and calculating prodigy, and his maternal grandfather was John Robinson McClean, a civil engineer and member of the Liberal Party. Bidder went to King's Preparatory School in Brighton and Harrow School. He then studied zoology at University College London under Ray Lankester for one year before joining Trinity College, Cambridge, where he took the Natural Sciences Tripos until 1886. Georgina "Georgie" Parker (born 26 April 1989) is an Australian rules footballer and former field hockey player for the Hockeyroos. George Lane Parker (1724–1791) was a British Army officer and politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1769 and 1780. Early life Parker was born on 6 September 1724, the second son of George Parker, 2nd Earl of Macclesfield and his first wife Mary Lane, daughter of Ralph Lane of Woodbury. He matriculated at Hertford College, Oxford on 20 January 1741 and graduated BA in 1743 and MA in 1750. Military career Parker joined the army in the 1st Foot Guards and was lieutenant and captain in 1749 and captain and lieutenant-colonel in 1755. He became Colonel in 1762 and Major-general in 1770. From 1773 to 1782 he was Colonel of the 20th Foot. He became a Lieutenant-General in 1777 and was Colonel of the 12th Dragoons from 1782.
