George Papworth
George Papworth (1781–1855) was a British architect who practised mainly in Ireland during the nineteenth century. Early life and career Papworth was born in London in 1781 and was the third son of the English stuccoist John Papworth (1750–1799). In 1799 he became the pupil of his elder brother, the architect John Buonarotti Papworth, and acted as his clerk of works until 1804. Life and work in Ireland He moved to Ireland in 1806 and took charge of the Circular Stone Manufacturers of North Strand, Dublin. He also started to build up an architectural practice. He was architect to the Dublin and Drogheda Railway and to the Royal Bank. He was later appointed Professor of Architecture by the Royal Hibernian Academy. He was buried in Mount Jerome Cemetery. Seán Heuston Bridge
Seán Heuston Bridge () is a cast-iron bridge spanning the River Liffey beside Heuston Station in Dublin, Ireland. It was previously named ''King's Bridge'' and ''Sarsfield Bridge'' - and the bridge and adjacent train station are still commonly referred to by older Dubliners as "Kings Bridge" and "Kings Bridge Station" respectively. Previously used for road traffic, the bridge now carries pedestrian and Luas (tram) traffic. History Origins Originally designed by George Papworth to carry horsedrawn traffic, the foundation stone was laid on 12 December 1827. Kenure House
Kenure House ( ga, Ceann Iubhair – headland of the yew trees). was a large Georgian house and estate in Rush, County Dublin, Ireland. The main house was constructed between 1703 and 1713 by the Duke of Ormond on the grounds of an earlier house but was destoyed by fire and rebuilt around 1827. A later portico and further additions were added in 1842 to a design by George Papworth. The main house was demolished by Dublin Corporation in 1978 and the granite portico is the only portion of the main house which still stands . Middleton Park House
Middleton Park House is a 19th-century Georgian country house in Castletown-Geoghegan, County Westmeath It stands on a gentle hill on a kilometre-long avenue looking towards Lough Ennell. It is a detached six-bay two-storey building with the central two bays slightly projecting from the façade. It has a slate roof and a projecting single-storey limestone Ionic entrance portico. Other features of the house are its under-floor heating system, stone bifurcated staircase leading to the Gallery Landing and three-story-high atrium lantern located in the Main Hall. At one end of the house is a cast-iron conservatory, one of only a few Richard Turner conservatories to be found in Ireland. After many years of disrepair, the house was restored in mid-2007 and is opened to the public as a commercial entity specialising in corporate events and private weddings and as a restaurant. Whitefriar Street Carmelite Church
Whitefriar Street Carmelite Church is a Roman Catholic church in Dublin, Ireland maintained by the Carmelite order. The church is noted for having the relics of Saint Valentine, which were donated to the church in the 19th century by Pope Gregory XVI from their previous location in the cemetery of St. Hippolytus in Rome. The church is on the site of a pre-Reformation Carmelite priory built in 1539. The current structure dates from 1825 and was designed by George Papworth, who also designed St. Mary's Pro-Cathedral in Dublin. It was extended and enlarged in 1856 and 1868. The church also contains relics of St. Albert, a Sicilian who died in 1306.
