George Montgomery (actor)
George Montgomery (born George Montgomery Letz; August 27, 1916 – December 12, 2000) was an American actor, best known for his work in Western films and television. He was also a painter, director, producer, writer, sculptor, furniture craftsman, and stuntman. He was married to Dinah Shore and a boyfriend of Hedy Lamarr. Early years Montgomery was born George Montgomery Letz in 1916, the youngest of 15 children of German immigrant parents, from Mykolaiv in southern Ukraine. He was born in Brady, in Pondera County, northern Montana near Great Falls. He was reared on a large ranch, where he learned to ride horses and work cattle as a part of daily life. Letz boxed as a heavyweight for a short while before enrolling in the University of Montana in Missoula. He was active in school athletics and majored in interior design, but he left after one year. George Leslie Montgomery
George Leslie Montgomery (c. 1727 – March 1787) was an Irish politician. Montgomery sat as Member of Parliament (MP) for Strabane from 1765 to 1768. He purchased the seat from John McCausland of Strabane for £2,000 after the death of the incumbent Robert Lowry when a new writ was issued for the borough on 22 October 1765. Subsequently, he represented Cavan County in the Irish House of Commons from 1768 until his death in 1787. The Cavan poll result on 2 August 1768 was Maxwell 727, Montgomery 648, Pratt 570, Newburgh 402; The poll finally closed on 11 November 1768 and the final poll was Maxwell 927, Montgomery 739, Pratt 668, Newburgh 451. George Thomas Montgomery (December 30, 1847 – January 10, 1907) was an American prelate of the Catholic Church. He was the first American-born Bishop of Monterey-Los Angeles (1896-1902) and later served as Coadjutor Archbishop of San Francisco from 1902 until his death in 1907. Early life and education Montgomery was born on December 30, 1847, on a farm in Daviess County, Kentucky, near Owensboro. He was one of nine children of Pius Michael and Harriet Elizabeth (née Warren) Montgomery; his uncle was Zachariah Montgomery and his cousin, Zachariah's son, was John Joseph Montgomery. His mother died of typhoid fever when he was 10 years old and he was raised by an aunt, Margaret Montgomery Head. George Montgomery (1562–1621) (''alias'' Montgomerie) was a Scottish people, Scottish protestant cleric, promoted by King James VI and I to various Irish bishoprics. He held the offices of Rector of Chedzoy, Somerset; Dean of Norwich (1603); Bishop of Raphoe, Bishop of Clogher, Bishop of Derry (1605); and Bishop of Meath (1610). George Montgomery (January 27, 1933 – August 24, 2023), nicknamed ''Ohio George'', was an American gasser drag racer. Montgomery began drag racing as a teen, learning mechanical skills at the AC Delco plant in Dayton, Ohio, he would later use to build the supercharger on his Cadillac; he would mate a Cragar 4-71 manifold to a GMC 6-71 blower, and hand-fabricated the drive pulleys. In 1950, he opened George's Speed Shop, which would ultimately earn the distinction of being the oldest continuously-operated speed shop in the U.S. He got the nickname "Ohio George" from Tim Woods, owner of the Stone-Woods-Cook Willys gasser, at the 1963 Nationals in Indianapolis. Montgomery won an NHRA national title in a gas class seven times, once in A/G, four in A/GS, and twice in AA/G (supercharged). George Lightbody Montgomery CBE FRSE TD (3 November 1905 – 5 February 1993) was a 20th-century Scottish pathologist and medical author, holding multiple senior positions in the Scottish medical profession. Life He was born on 3 November 1905 in Glasgow the son of Jeanie Lightbody and John Montgomery. He attended Hillhead High School then studied medicine at the University of Glasgow graduating with an MB ChB in 1928. In 1931 he began lecturing in clinical pathology at the University of St Andrews, also gaining a doctorate there (PhD) in 1937. In 1937 he moved home to Glasgow as a lecturer in pathology and pathologist to several hospitals. In World War II he reached the rank of Brigadier in the Royal Army Medical Corps mainly serving in the Middle and Far East, in particular Burma. Returning to Glasgow after the war he was given a professorship, the St Mungo-Notman chair, at the University of Glasgow in 1948. George Washington Montgomery, or Jorge Montgomery (Alicante, Spain, 1804 - Washington D.C., June 5, 1841) was an American Spanish-born writer, translator and diplomat. His father was an Irishman businessman, John Montgomery; his mother was perhaps a Spaniard. His father had lived in Boston and had settled in Alicante, where he was a U.S. consul. George spent his childhood in England, and studied Humanities in Exeter.
