George McLean (Canadian Politician)
George Alexander McLean (23 May 1885 – 31 October 1975) was a Liberal party member of the House of Commons of Canada. He was born in Mara Township, Ontario, and became an insurance agent and real estate broker by career. McLean attended Orillia Collegiate, then attained a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Toronto. He served in World War I with the Canadian Expeditionary Force, 19th Battalion. He also served with the 21st Battalion (2nd Tyneside Scottish), Northumberland Fusiliers, achieving the rank of captain. In 1917, he sustained major injuries in battle. From 1921 to 1924, McLean was a municipal councillor of Orillia, and from then the city's mayor until 1925. He was first elected to Parliament at the Simcoe East riding in the 1935 general election after an unsuccessful campaign there in 1930. George McLean (New Zealand Politician)
Sir George McLean (1834 – 17 February 1917) was a 19th-century Member of Parliament from the Otago region in New Zealand. Biography McLean owned Matanaka Farm near Waikouaiti from February 1878 until 1892. He represented the Waikouaiti electorate from to 1872 when he resigned, and from an to 1881 when he retired. McLean held several ministerial appointments under Vogel and Atkinson: Postmaster-General and Commissioner of Telegraphs from 1 to 13 September 1876 and 12 January to 13 October 1877. He was Collector of Customs from 1 September 1876 to 13 October 1877 and (as a MLC) Commissioner of Trade and Customs from 28 August to 3 September 1884. On 19 December 1881, he was appointed to the New Zealand Legislative Council and remained a member until his death on 17 February 1917. He was knighted in 1909. George McLean (footballer, Born 1898)
George Thomson McLean (1898 – 1970) was a Scottish professional footballer who played for Forfar Athletic, Bradford (Park Avenue) and Huddersfield Town. Career McLean began playing football in his native Scotland for Scottish Football Alliance side Forfar Athletic in 1920 before coming to England in 1921 to play for Bradford Park Avenue in Football League Division Two. He left Forfar just before the ''Loons'' joined the Scottish Football League. He was good enough to sign a contract just before his leaving to ensure the Angus side received £700 from his new club for his services. Bradford were relegated in his first season but McLean stayed at Horton Park Avenue, becoming one of their legendary players, scoring over a century of league goals and guiding the club to the Division Three North title in 1928. George Angus McLean (May 16, 1923 – March 16, 2016) was a Canadian television journalist, best known for his work as a TV anchor for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). Personal Born in Brandon, Manitoba, his family moved to Manchester, England in 1929. McLean was educated in the United Kingdom and joined the Royal Air Force during World War II.
