George Manners (died 1623)
Sir George Manners (1569–1623) of Haddon Hall in Derbyshire, England, served as a Member of Parliament for Nottingham, 1588–1589, and for Derbyshire, 1593–1596. His elaborate triple-decked monument with kneeling effigies of himself and his wife and family survives in the Vernon/Haddon Chapel, All Saints Church, Bakewell, Derbyshire. Robert Sutton, 1st Baron Lexinton
Robert Sutton, 1st Baron Lexinton (21 December 159413 October 1668) was a Royalist MP in 1625 and 1640. Biography In 1624 he was elected Knight of the Shire (MP) for Nottinghamshire and re-elected in April and November 1640. He was disabled as a Royalist from sitting in 1643. He served Charles I of England during the English Civil War, making great monetary sacrifices for the royal cause, and in 1645 the king created him Baron Lexinton, this being a variant of the name of the Nottinghamshire village of Laxton. His estate suffered during the time of the Commonwealth, but some money was returned to him by Charles II of England. He commissioned the building of the first Kelham Hall. He died on 13 October 1668 at the age of 74. There is a wall monument to him in Church of St. Michael and All Angels, Averham. George Manners, 7th Earl of Rutland (1580 – 29 March 1641) of Fulbeck Hall, Lincolnshire was an English landowner and politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1604 and 1626. He inherited a peerage as Earl of Rutland in 1632. Manners was the son of John Manners, 4th Earl of Rutland and his wife Elizabeth Charlton, daughter of Francis Charlton of Apley Castle. Holme Pierrepont Hall is a medieval Manor House in Holme Pierrepont near Nottingham. It is a Grade I listed building. History The Pierrepont family have lived at Holme Pierrepont since around 1280, following the marriage of Henry de Pierrepont to Annora de Manvers. Originally the area was known only as Holme, but later adopted the family surname as a suffix. The house was built by Sir William Pierrepont around 1500. He was succeeded by Sir George Pierrepont (died 1564), Sir Henry Pierrepont (died 1616) and Sir Robert Pierrepont (died 1643), who was created 1st Earl of Kingston-upon-Hull. The north range of the house was rebuilt by the 1st Earl in 1628. His son Henry Pierrepont, 2nd Earl of Kingston-upon-Hull was created Marquess of Dorchester in 1645. The family rose to be Dukes of Kingston in 1715 when the 5th Earl was created 1st Duke of Kingston-upon-Hull.
