George Kollias (drummer)
Giorgos "George" Kollias ( el, Γεώργιος "Γεωργι" Κόλλιας; born August 30, 1977) is a Greek heavy metal drummer and music teacher best known for his work with American technical death metal band Nile. He is the first Nile drummer to perform every song on more than one full-length album (handling drum duties so far on all albums from '' Annihilation of the Wicked'' through ''Vile Nilotic Rites''). His sponsors include Sabian, Evans, Vic Firth, and Axis Pedals; the last with whom he released his signature bass drum pedals. In addition to being the drummer of Nile, he also teaches drums at the Modern Music School in Athens. Biography Kollias was born in Corinth. He started playing drums, self-taught, at the age of 12, covering songs of his favorite bands like Sepultura and Slayer. Season of Mist is an independent record label and record distributor with subsidiaries in France and the United States. The record label was founded in 1996 by Michael S. Berberian in Marseille, France. From the start releasing black metal, pagan metal, and death metal records, the label moved on to releasing albums of avant-garde metal, gothic metal and punk bands as well. Nile is an American death metal band from Greenville, South Carolina, formed in 1993. The band's current lineup consists of Karl Sanders (guitars, vocals), George Kollias (drums), Brian Kingsland (guitars, vocals), and Scott Eames (guitars, vocals). Everett Joseph "Vic" Firth (June 2, 1930 – July 26, 2015) was an American musician and the founder of Vic Firth Company (formerly Vic Firth, Inc.), a company that makes percussion mallet, percussion sticks and mallets. Biography Vic Firth was born June 2, 1930, in Winchester, Massachusetts. He was raised in Sanford, Maine by parents Everett E. and Rosemary Firth, where he graduated from Sanford High School. Son of a successful trumpet player, he started learning the cornet at age four, turning later to percussion, trombone, clarinet, piano, and music arrangement. When he reached high school, he was a full-time percussionist, and created an 18-piece band at age 16. He played a variety of percussion instruments such as vibraphone, timpani, and the drum set. ''Vile Nilotic Rites'' is the ninth studio album by American technical death metal band Nile, released through Nuclear Blast on November 1, 2019. It is the band's only album with bassist/vocalist Brad Parris and first with guitarist/vocalist Brian Kingsland, the latter of whom replaced Dallas Toler-Wade in 2017. Two singles, "Long Shadows of Dread" and the title track, were released from the album. Nile toured North America throughout November and December 2019 in support of the record. ''Annihilation of the Wicked'' is the fourth studio album by American technical death metal band Nile. The album was released on May 23, 2005, by Relapse Records. This is the first Nile album to feature George Kollias on drums, replacing Tony Laureano. This album marks Nile's last record released by Relapse. The liner notes detail the theme and writing/recording process of each song. A music video for "Sacrifice Unto Sebek" was produced. It is also the first Nile album produced by Neil Kernon. Technical Death Metal
Technical death metal (also referred to as tech-death) is a musical subgenre of death metal that began and developed in the early- to mid-1990s, with particular focus on challenging, demanding instrumental skill and complex songwriting. Technical experimentation in death metal began in the late 1980s and early 1990s by four bands that are often grouped together as "technical death metal's Big Four" – Death, Pestilence, Atheist, and Cynic – as well as Nocturnus; all but Pestilence being part of the Florida death metal scene.
