George Evans (10 March 1870 – 5 March 1915) known as "Honey Boy" Evans was a Welsh-born songwriter, comedian, entertainer, and musician active in the United States in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. William John George Evans VC (16 February 1876 – 28 September 1937) was an English recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. Evans first joined the Scots Guards in March 1894, and served during the Second Boer War. He left the Army in August 1902, to work for the NSPCC, and rejoined in January 1915. When he was 40 years old, and a Company Sergeant-Major in the 18th Battalion ( 3rd Manchester Pals), The Manchester Regiment of the British Army during the First World War, Evans was awarded the Victoria Cross for his deeds on 30 July 1916 during the Battle of the Somme at Guillemont, France: Company Sergeant-Major Evans volunteered to take back an important message after five runners had been killed in attempting to do so. George Essex Evans
George Essex Evans (18 June 1863 – 10 November 1909) was an Australian poet. Biography Essex Evans was born in London on 18 June 1863, to Welsh parents. His father, John Evans Q.C., Treasurer of the Inner Temple and a member of the House of Commons, died in 1864 when his son was only a few months old; he left his family £60,000. George Essex Evans was raised and educated by his mother Mary Ann (née Owen), who was one of the Bowens of Llwynwair, an old Welsh family. She was an educated woman, fluent in both Latin and Greek. The family lived in Haverfordwest in Pembrokeshire where Essex Evans attended Haverfordwest Grammar School and then the St. James Collegiate School of Jersey. Essex Evans was partly deaf and although he was an excellent athlete, his tutors thought him "dull". His hearing impediment prevented him going into the armed forces. George William Evans (5 January 1780 – 16 October 1852) was a surveyor and early explorer in the Colony of New South Wales. Evans was born in Warwick, England, migrating to Australia in October 1802. Early career In 1803, Evans was appointed acting Surveyor General of New South Wales whilst Charles Grimes was on leave in England. In 1804, Evans explored the Warragamba River and upstream to the present site of the Warragamba Dam. Later removed from the position by Governor Philip Gidley King he was posted to the position of Assistant Surveyor by Lieutenant-Governor William Paterson. Evans surveyed the shores of Jervis Bay and inland to Appin leading the way to the settlement of the Illawarra region. George Evans, D.D. (1630?–1701/2), was an English antiquary. Evans was educated at Jesus College, Cambridge, where he graduated B.A. and became a fellow of Jesus in 1650, and graduated M.A. in 1653. He became vicar of New Windsor, and was installed Canon of Windsor 30 July 1660. He proceeded D.D. at Cambridge in 1665; was licensed to St. Benet Fink, London, 16 May 1663; and was also rector of Hitcham, Buckinghamshire. His son, George Evans, also a fellow of Jesus College, Cambridge, succeeded him at Benet Fink in 1693. He played in college for George Mason University from 1997 to 2001 where he ranks first all-time at George Mason in steals (218), second in blocked shots (211), third in points (1,953) and rebounds (953), and 13th in assists (226). He served as the head football coach at Northern Illinois University from 1929 to 1954, compiling a record of 132–70–20. George Evans (born 13 December 1994) is an English professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Millwall. Career Evans was born in Cheadle, Greater Manchester and joined Manchester City at the age of six. After several seasons in Manchester City's academy, Evans first came to prominence with several appearances on the bench for City during the 2012–13 season, although he was ultimately not given a debut for the senior team. In the following season, Evans began playing for the Elite Development Squad before being loaned to Crewe Alexandra at the end of October. Within a week he was given his first senior cap, being named in the starting line-up for Crewe's home league game against Bradford City, against whom he played a full 90 minutes. George Albert Evans (26 July 1935 – December 2000) was a Welsh footballer who played as a wing half for Wrexham and Chester in the 1950s and 1960s. Playing career Evans spent time as a youngster with Bolton Wanderers and Blackpool before playing non-league football for Oswestry Town. He later joined Wrexham as a part-time player, continuing to work at Bersham Colliery near Wrexham. In October 1957 he made his debut in The Football League for Wrexham against Hartlepools United, going on to make 175 league appearances for the club until 1963. That summer saw Evans move to Chester along with Stan Bennion in exchange for Bill Myerscough, where he again more than 100 league appearances.
