George Cobb (coach)
George Robert Cobb (August 26, 1885 – February 13, 1957) was an American football and basketball coach and college athletics administrator. He served as the head football coach at Rhode Island State College—now known as the University of Rhode Island—from 1909 to 1911 and again from 1913 to 1914, compiling a record of a 17–16–5. Cobb was also the head basketball coach at Rhode Island State from 1910 to 1913, tallying a mark of 13–9, and the school's athletic director from 1909 to 1916. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1908. Cobb died on February 13, 1957, as Peninsula General Hospital in Salisbury, Maryland. Granby, Massachusetts
Granby is a town in Hampshire County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 6,110 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Springfield, Massachusetts Metropolitan Statistical Area. The census-designated place of Granby corresponds to the main village of Granby in the center of the town. History Granby was once part of Hadley, as were other towns. Granby was first settled in 1727 and was officially incorporated in 1768. The town is named in honor of John Manners, Marquess of Granby, a hero of the Seven Years' War. Granby was originally part of the Hadley Equivalent Lands, and then part of South Hadley, before being incorporated on June 11, 1768. Old Hadley was first settled in 1659 by people from Hartford and Wethersfield, Connecticut. These settlers left Connecticut because of religious differences within their communities. The 1911 college football season was the last one before major reforms were made to the American game in 1912. In 1911, touchdowns were worth five points, the field was 110 yards in length, and a team had three downs within which to advance the ball ten yards. The United States Naval Academy (Navy) finished with a record of 6 wins and 3 ties (6–0–3). Two of the ties were 0–0 games with the other major unbeaten teams, Penn State (8–0–1) and Princeton (8–0–2). Other teams that finished the season unbeaten were Minnesota (6–0–1) and Florida (5–0–1).
