George Browne (died 1483)
Sir George Browne (1440 – 4 December 1483) was an English politician. He was the eldest surviving son and heir of Sir Thomas Browne, beheaded 20 July 1460. He took part in Buckingham's rebellion, and was beheaded on Tower Hill on 4 December 1483. Family George Browne was the second but eldest surviving son of Sir Thomas Browne of Betchworth Castle, Surrey, and Eleanor FitzAlan, the daughter of Thomas Fitzalan. By his mother's first marriage, he had six brothers, including Sir Anthony Browne, and two sisters. After his father's death, his mother married Sir Thomas Vaughan who was executed at Pontefract on 25 June 1483 (along with Anthony Woodville, 2nd Earl Rivers and Sir Richard Grey). Career On 30 September 1460, two months after his father's execution, Browne was granted a pardon by the Yorkists, and in 1470 was arrested with George Plantagenet, 1st Duke of Clarence, and Richard Neville, 16th Earl of Warwick. George Ulick Browne, 6th Marquess of Sligo and 4th Earl of Clanricarde (1 September 1856 – 26 February 1935), styled Earl of Altamont until 1913, was an Irish peer. George was the eldest son of Henry Browne, 5th Marquess of Sligo, and his wife Catherine Henrietta Dicken. He was born in Munger, British India. He succeeded to the marquessate in February 1913, aged 56, on the death of his father. He married Agatha Stewart Hodgson, daughter of James Stewart Hodgson, on 12 October 1887. George Edward Browne (January 12, 1876 – December 9, 1920) was an American professional baseball right fielder. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Philadelphia Phillies, New York Giants, Boston Doves, Chicago Cubs, Washington Senators, Chicago White Sox, and Brooklyn Dodgers between 1901 and 1912. Biography Browne was born in Richmond, Virginia. Browne entered the major leagues with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1901. Though he usually spent one or two seasons with a team, he remained with the New York Giants from 1902 to 1907. He was the National League leader in runs scored in 1904 with New York; runs were down across the league and Browne's 99 runs were the lowest total for a league leader until 1915. A member of the 1905 World Series champion Giants, Browne hit .227 with one RBI and two runs scored in the World Series. George Elmer Browne
George Elmer Browne (1871–1946) was an American artist known in France and Massachusetts. Biography Browne was born in Gloucester, Massachusetts. He studied in Boston at the Cowles Art School and the Museum of Fine Arts before completing his education under Jules Joseph Lefebvre, Jules Lefebvre and Tony Robert-Fleury in Paris. He founded the West End School of Art at his summer home in Provincetown in 1916 at the tip of Cape Cod far away from his studio in New York. The group was influenced by the impressionists and was among five schools in the town. Browne was very well regarded in France and became a Chevalier of the Legion of Honor. Browne has work in Provincetown Art Association and Museum, Provincetown Museum. In 1919, Browne was elected into the National Academy of Design as an Associate member, and became a full member in 1928. Daisy Marguerite Hughes was among Browne's pupils. George Washington Browne
Sir George Washington Browne (21 September 1853 – 15 June 1939) was a Scottish architect. He was born in Glasgow, and trained there and in London. He spent most of his career in Edinburgh, although his work can be found throughout Scotland and beyond. He was involved in nearly 300 projects, including many public and commercial buildings. One of his most notable buildings is Edinburgh's Central Library, and he became recognised as an authority on library planning and design. He came to national attention after winning a competition to design a bridge over the River Thames in London, although this was never realised. He was the first architect to be elected as President of the Royal Scottish Academy. He also served as President of the Edinburgh Architectural Association, and was instrumental in setting up the Royal Fine Art Commission for Scotland. George Eakins Browne
George Eakins Browne (1837-20 February 1923) was an Irish politician. He was born in 1837 to John Joseph Browne and Maria Eakins, of Brownstown, Ballinrobe, County Mayo. The family estate amounted to some 2,809 acres during Griffith's Valuation in the 1840s. He was elected in 1870 as a Member of Parliament for Mayo, and was re-elected at the 1874 general election. The election was declared void on 7 May 1874, but Browne was re-elected at the resulting by-election, and held the seat until the 1880 general election, when he was defeated by Charles Stewart Parnell. During the Parnell Commission, he was referred to as "one of the three good landlords in Ireland". He later moved to County Dublin and was, for a time, a member of Killiney Urban District Council. On his death, he lived at 14 Shanganagh Terrace, Killiney.
