George Arthur Boggs
George Arthur Boggs (August 9, 1891 – November 9, 1968) was a Canadian politician. He represented the electoral district of Kings County in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1953 to 1956. He was a member of the Progressive Conservative Party of Nova Scotia. Born in 1891 at Chicago, Illinois, Boggs was educated at Dartmouth College, and Magdalen College, Oxford. He married Evelyn Starr, who died in 1923 and then Helen Pipon Starr in February 1925. A fruit grower by career, Boggs moved to Nova Scotia in 1925. He served as president of the Nova Scotia Fruit Growers' Association, and warden of St. John's Anglican Church, Wolfville. Boggs entered provincial politics in 1953, when he was elected in the dual-member riding of Kings County with Progressive Conservative Edward Haliburton. Magdalen College, Oxford
Magdalen College (, ) is a constituent college of the University of Oxford. It was founded in 1458 by William of Waynflete. Today, it is the fourth wealthiest college, with a financial endowment of £332.1 million as of 2019 and one of the strongest academically, setting the record for the highest Norrington Score in 2010 and topping the table twice since then. It is home to several of the university's distinguished chairs, including the Agnelli-Serena Professorship, the Sherardian Professorship, and the four Waynflete Professorships. Eric Balcom
Eric Wilfred Balcom, (March 13, 1909 – May 31, 1989) was a businessman, political figure, and Companion of the Order of Canada. Born in Port Dufferin, Halifax County, Nova Scotia, Balcom moved to Wolfville in 1938. He established two nursing homes there. Balcom then operated the Paramount Hotel and Cottages from 1942 to 1970. He was Mayor of Wolfville from 1950 to 1955 and ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the Parliament in 1953. Balcom was elected to the Nova Scotia House of Assembly in 1956, representing Kings North as a Liberal. He re-offered in the 1960 general election, but was defeated. 1956 Nova Scotia General Election
The 1956 Nova Scotia general election was held on 30 October 1956 to elect members of the 46th House of Assembly of the Province of Nova Scotia, Canada. It was won by the Progressive Conservatives led by Robert Stanfield. This was the first election the Liberals had fought after the death of their longtime charismatic leader, Angus L. Macdonald. Public Health Minister Harold Connolly became interim leader and premier following Macdonald's death in 1954, but was defeated at a leadership convention by Education Minister Henry Hicks. The convention exposed a sharp religious divide in the Liberal Party; Hicks was a Protestant and Connolly was a Catholic. Edward Haliburton
Edward Douglas Haliburton (March 28, 1898 – March 12, 1990) was a Canadian politician. He represented the electoral districts of Kings County and Kings South in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1953 to 1970. He was a member of the Progressive Conservative Party of Nova Scotia. Born in 1898 at St. John's, Newfoundland, Haliburton was educated at Dalhousie University, and University of King's College. He married Louella Jean Tattrie in March 1926. By career, Haliburton was a farmer, fruit grower, and journalist. Haliburton first attempted to enter provincial politics in the 1949 election, but was defeated by 184 votes. He ran again in the 1953 election, and was elected in the dual-member riding of Kings County with Progressive Conservative George Arthur Boggs.
