Alberico Gentili (14 January 155219 June 1608) was an Italian-English jurist, a tutor of Queen Elizabeth I, and a standing advocate to the Spanish Embassy in London, who served as the Regius professor of civil law at the University of Oxford for 21 years. He is heralded as the founder of the science of international law alongside Francisco de Vitoria and Hugo Grotius, and thus known as the "Father of international law". Gentili has been the earliest writer on public international law. In 1587, he became the first non-English person to be a Regius Professor. Gentili authored several books, which are recognized to be among the most essential for international legal doctrines, yet that also include theological and literary subjects. Serafino Gentili (1775 – 13 May 1835) was an Italian opera singer particularly known for his performances in tenore di grazia roles. He sang in opera houses throughout Italy as well as in Paris and Dresden. During the course of his career, he created the role of Lindoro in Rossini's ''L'italiana in Algeri'' as well as leading roles in several other operas by less well-known composers. In his later years, he went by the surname Gentili-Donati to distinguish himself from the tenor Pietro Gentili. Gentili was born in Venice and is presumed to have had his training there although little is known about his early life. Sebastiano Gentili (1597 – 3 August 1667) was a Roman Catholic prelate who served as Bishop of Terni (1656–1667) and Bishop of Anagni (1642–1646). He was born in Foligno, Italy in 1597. On 24 March 1642, he was appointed during the papacy of Pope Urban VIII as Bishop of Anagni. Scipione Gentili ( la, Scipio Gentilis; 1563 – August 7, 1616) was an Italian law professor and a legal writer. One of his six brothers was Alberico Gentili, one of the fathers of international law. Born at San Ginesio, Scipione Gentili left Italy at the age of 16 when he had to emigrate together with his father and his brother Alberico because of their Protestant beliefs. Together with his brother and his father, he settled in England, and, in the early 1580s, published several books with the London printer John Wolfe, all dedicated to Sir Philip Sidney. Of them, the most important was a partial Latin translation of Torquato Tasso's ''Gerusalemme Liberata''. Scipione spent his life in Germany. Biography Born in Fano, the second largest town (by population) in the Province of Pesaro and Urbino, Gentili started his career with Vis Pesaro. After a season with Perugia, he was loaned to Inter Milan. He played once for the Inter first team in a friendly match. Aloysius Luigi Gentili (14 July 1801 Rome – 26 September 1848 Dublin) was an Italian Rosminians, Rosminian cleric. Biography Gentili's early life was that of a brilliant young man of the world. He sought admission into the Society of Jesus but was refused because of his health. He made the acquaintance of Antonio Rosmini-Serbati, Father Rosmini who accepted him as a postulant of the newly founded Institute of Charity. He remained in Rome, attending theological lectures whilst residing at the Irish College in order to improve his English, and after his ordination to the priesthood, in 1830, proceeded to Domodossola to make his novitiate. Whilst Gentili was living at the Irish College, Ambrose Phillips de Lisle, a young English gentleman who had been converted to Roman Catholicism while a student at Cambridge, arrived in Rome.
