''Gear Gods'' is an online publication centered on music production, equipment and theory in heavy metal and hard rock. It is associated with the websites ''MetalSucks'' and ''Metal Injection''. ''Gear Gods'' has featured in-depth interviews on the equipments of Between the Buried and Me, John Petrucci, Zakk Wylde, Mike Portnoy, Misha Mansoor, among other artists. Its editor-in-chief is Trey Xavier, a guitar instructor who studied at Berklee College of Music and Sonoma State University. Pantera () is an American heavy metal music, heavy metal band from Arlington, Texas formed in 1981, and currently comprised of vocalist Phil Anselmo, bassist Rex Brown, and touring musicians Zakk Wylde and Charlie Benante. Kurt Ballou (born February 1, 1974) is an American musician and producer based in Massachusetts, best known as the guitarist for hardcore punk band Converge and for his prolific recording and production work at his own GodCity Studio. Early and personal life Kurt Ballou started playing saxophone in elementary school. He performed in jazz band, concert band and orchestra, dabbling between baritone saxophone, bassoon and bass clarinet. Ballou was accepted to join the Hartford School of Music, but he opted to study aerospace engineering instead. His father used to have a guitar that Ballou played occasionally, but it did not interest him until a school friend gave him Slayer tapes around the age of sixteen.
