Global Design Effort
The Global Design Effort (GDE) was an international team tasked with designing the International Linear Collider (ILC), a particle accelerator to succeed machines such as the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the Stanford Linear Accelerator (SLAC), with the endorsement of the International Committee for Future Accelerators. Between 2005–2013, the GDE led planning, research and development, and produced an ILC Technical Design Report. The Global Design Effort was headed by Barry Barish of Caltech, former director of the LIGO The Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) is a large-scale physics experiment and observatory designed to detect cosmic gravitational waves and to develop gravitational-wave observations as an astronomical tool. Global Digital Exemplar
The Global Digital Exemplar (GDE) programme is an NHS England initiative to achieve digital transformation in selected exemplar organisations and to create a knowledge sharing ecosystem to spread learning from these exemplars. The programme is to enable "digitally advanced" NHS trusts to share knowledge with other NHS trusts, specifically knowledge gained during the implementation of IT systems, and especially experience from introducing electronic health record (EHR) systems. The GDE project is expected to last two to three and a half years; with the most digitally advanced trusts on the shorter time scale. Four rounds of exemplars have been announced so far — two waves of acute trust GDEs, and one wave each of ambulance trusts, and mental health trusts. In addition, eighteen acute trust "fast followers" have been partnered with the acute trusts. The programme involves the investment of £395 million. Each GDE will receive "up to £10 million" to spend on digital projects. T ...

Glycogen Debranching Enzyme
A debranching enzyme is a molecule that helps facilitate the Glycogenolysis, breakdown of glycogen, which serves as a store of glucose in the body, through glucosyltransferase and glucosidase activity. Together with phosphorylases, debranching enzymes mobilize glucose reserves from glycogen deposits in the muscles and liver. This constitutes a major source of energy reserves in most organisms. Glycogen breakdown is highly regulated in the body, especially in the liver, by various hormones including insulin and glucagon, to maintain a homeostatic balance of blood-glucose levels. When glycogen breakdown is compromised by mutations in the glycogen debranching enzyme, metabolic diseases such as Glycogen storage disease type III can result. Glucosyltransferase and glucosidase are performed by a single enzyme in mammals, yeast, and some bacteria, but by two distinct enzymes in ''E. coli'' and other bacteria, complicating nomenclature. Proteins that catalyze both functions are referred ...

Gnome Desktop Environment
A gnome is a mythological creature and diminutive spirit in Renaissance magic and alchemy, first introduced by Paracelsus in the 16th century and later adopted by more recent authors including those of modern fantasy literature. Its characteristics have been reinterpreted to suit the needs of various story tellers, but it is typically said to be a small humanoid that lives underground. Diminutive statues of gnomes introduced as lawn ornaments during the 19th century grew in popularity during the 20th century and came to be known as garden gnomes. History Origins The word comes from Renaissance Latin ''gnomus'', which first appears in ''A Book on Nymphs, Sylphs, Pygmies, and Salamanders, and on the Other Spirits'' by Paracelsus, published posthumously in Nysa in 1566 (and again in the Johannes Huser edition of 1589–1591 from an autograph by Paracelsus). The term may be an original invention of Paracelsus, possibly deriving the term from Latin ''gēnomos'' (itself representi ...

Gas Diffusion Electrode
Gas diffusion electrodes (GDE) are electrodes with a conjunction of a solid, liquid and gaseous interface, and an electrical conducting catalyst supporting an electrochemical reaction between the liquid and the gaseous phase. Principle GDEs are used in fuel cells, where oxygen and hydrogen react at the gas diffusion electrodes, to form water, while converting the chemical bond energy into electrical energy. Usually the catalyst is fixed in a porous foil, so that the liquid and the gas can interact. Besides these wetting characteristics, the gas diffusion electrode must, of course, offer an optimal electric conductivity, in order to enable an electron transport with low ohmic resistance. An important prerequisite for the operation of gas diffusion electrodes is that both the liquid and the gaseous phase coexist in the pore system of the electrodes which can be demonstrated with the Young–Laplace equation: : p= \frac The gas pressure p is in relation with the liquid in the p ...

Google Developer Expert
A Google Developers Expert (GDE) is a person recognized by Google as having exemplary expertise in Google Developer and open-source technologies and products. GDEs are awarded by membership in the Google Developers Experts program, established and administered by Google. GDEs have a tenure of one year which can be extended upon continuous active contribution to the developer and open source community of that product. A Google Developers Expert cannot be a Google employee whilst a member of the program. GDEs are not permitted to "make any statements on behalf of Google or any Google company" and be clear that any opinions are not those of Google. As of June 2023, according to the GDE program website, there were more than 1,000 people with this designation. In 2023, Google expanded the GDE program to include more specialized tracks, such as Google Assistant and Google Pay, to recognize experts in emerging Google technologies. In 2024, the GDE community has become more globally dive ...

Gauteng Department Of Education
The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) is the department of the Government of Gauteng responsible for primary and secondary education within the Gauteng Province of South Africa. The Member of the Executive Council for this department is Matome Chiloane, while the head of the department is Edward Mosuwe. The department was established in 1994 to replace the education department of the dissolved Transvaal Province. The department is headquartered at 117 Simmonds Street in Marshalltown, Johannesburg. More recently, the department has been criticised for not being able to accommodate the growing number of pupils in the province. It has attempted to use an online registration system, but, this too has been criticised. For the 2018/2019 financial year, it received a financially unqualified audit and recorded irregular expenditure of over R1,2 billion. Irregular expenditure for the 2019/2020 financial year once again topped R1 billion, while R431 million was spent in three months to ...
