Gauteng Department Of Education
The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) is the department of the Government of Gauteng responsible for primary and secondary education within the Gauteng Province of South Africa. The Member of the Executive Council for this department is Matome Chiloane, while the head of the department is Edward Mosuwe. The department was established in 1994 to replace the education department of the dissolved Transvaal Province. The department is headquartered at 117 Simmonds Street in Marshalltown, Johannesburg. More recently, the department has been criticised for not being able to accommodate the growing number of pupils in the province. It has attempted to use an online registration system, but, this too has been criticised. For the 2018/2019 financial year, it received a financially unqualified audit and recorded irregular expenditure of over R1,2 billion. The government of Gauteng province in South Africa consists of a unicameral legislature elected by proportional representation, and an executive branch headed by a Premier who is elected by the legislature. Legislature The provincial legislature is a unicameral body of 73 members elected by a system of party-list proportional representation. The legislature is elected for a term of five years, unless it is dissolved early. By convention elections to the provincial legislature are held at the same time as elections to the National Assembly. The legislature meets in the Johannesburg City Hall. Matome Chiloane
Matome Kopano Chiloane is a South African politician who has been the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Education in Gauteng since October 2022. He has been a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature since March 2018, representing the African National Congress. He formerly served as the chairperson of the education committee in the legislature. Chiloane is also the provincial chairperson of the African National Congress Youth League. Career In August 2014, Chiloane was elected chairperson of the African National Congress Youth League in Gauteng. On 20 March 2018, he was sworn in as a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature. Gauteng ( ) is one of the nine provinces of South Africa. The name in Sotho-Tswana languages means 'place of gold'. Situated on the Highveld, Gauteng is the smallest province by land area in South Africa. Marshalltown, Gauteng
Marshalltown is a suburb of Johannesburg, South Africa. It is located in Region F of the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality. History The suburb has its origin as farm land owned by Frederick Bezuidenhout Junior. This small strip of land on the farm ''Turffontein'', was adjacent to South African Republic owned land of Rantjeslaagte which was soon to be proclaimed as the township of Johannesburg on 8 November 1886. The land was purchased by two businessmen, Henry Brown Marshall and his brother-in-law William M'Laren in September 1886.
