Gazmend Kapllani (born August 1, 1967) is an Albanian-born writer and journalist. He is the author of the best-selling novel ''A Short Border Handbook''. He lives in Chicago, Illinois. Early life and education Gazmend Kapllani was born in Lushnjë, Albania on August 1, 1967. The Kapllani family has been forced from their land and resettled by the Communist regime of Enver Hohxa. In 1991, as the popular movement against the communist regime started gathering momentum in Albania, Kapllani led a political rally in Lushnjë. After that, he had to hide from the secret police, and eventually escaped to Greece. Kapllani settled in Athens, where he graduated from National and Kapodistrian University of Athens with a BA in Philosophy, and earned his PhD in Political Science and History from Panteion University, Athens, with a thesis on the image of Albanians in the Greek press, and of Greeks in the Albanian press. Gazmend Leka
Gazmend Leka is an Albanian painter and artistic director and scholar. Biography He finished his high school studies at the artistic "Jordan Misja" school in Tirana. He finished studies for painting and graphics at the ILA (today's Academy of Arts). He was responsible for designing the interior of the "Gjergj Kastrioti-Skanderbeu" museum in Kruja. From 1982, for ten years he worked in the film studio "New Albania" ("Shqipëria e Re") as a painter and artistic director. He worked on two films and won an international award "Dea Fortunata" in Naples. Since 1992 he has been Professor at the Academy of Arts, Tirana. As a painter he has made around 140 major painting exhibitions inside and outside Albania. His artwork is typically in earthy tones such as brown or grey. Gazmend Muhaxheri
Gazmend Muhaxheri (born 27 September 1964) is a politician in Kosovo. He served in the Assembly of Kosovo from 2004 to 2007 with the Reformist Party ORA and has been the mayor of Peja since 2013 as a member of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK). He is a nephew of Ymer Muhaxheri, who was a prominent LDK politician in Peja in the 1990s. Private career Muhaxheri is a construction engineer. He is a member of the majority Kosovo Albanian community. Gazmend Oketa (born 14 December 1968 in Durrës District, Albania) is an Albanian politician. He served as Deputy Prime Minister of Albania, as well as Minister of Defence. Political career On 12 March 2007, Oketa was named Deputy Prime Minister, replacing Ilir Rusmajli. On 22 March 2008, Oketa succeeded Fatmir Mediu as Minister Of Defence following Medihu's resignation. He was replaced on 17 September 2009 by Arben Imami.
