Gazipur-3 is a constituency represented in the Jatiya Sangsad (National Parliament) of Bangladesh since 2024 by Rumana Ali of the Awami League. Boundaries The constituency encompasses Sreepur Upazila and two union parishads of Gazipur Sadar Upazila: Bhawal Gor and Pirujali. History The constituency was created in 1984 from the Dhaka-23 constituency when the former Dhaka District was split into six districts: Manikganj, Munshiganj, Dhaka, Gazipur, Narsingdi, and Narayanganj. Ahead of the 2008 general election, the Election Commission redrew constituency boundaries to reflect population changes revealed by the 2001 Bangladesh census. The 2008 redistricting added a fifth seat to Gazipur District and altered the boundaries of Gazipur-3. AKM Fazlul Haque Milon is a Bangladesh Nationalist Party politician and the former Member of Parliament of Gazipur-3. Career Milon is a former President of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal. Milon contested the June 1996 Bangladeshi general election from Gazipur-3 as a Bangladesh Nationalist Party candidate and lost. Rumana Ali Tusi is a Bangladeshi academic, writer and politician from Gazipur belonging to Bangladesh Awami League. She is the incumbent state minister for Primary and Mass Education and Member of Parliament from Gazipur- 3 and state minister of the 12th Parliament. 2018 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 30 December 2018 to elect 300 directly-elected members of the Jatiya Sangsad. The result was a landslide victory for the Awami League led by Sheikh Hasina. According to political scientist Ali Riaz, the elections were not free and fair. The BBC News reported that they were marred by violence and allegations of vote rigging. 1986 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 7 May 1986. A total of 1,527 candidates contested the election. The result was a victory for the Jatiya Party, which won 153 of the 300 seats. Voter turnout was 61.1%. Bangladesh Nationalist Party, the winner of the previous elections, boycotted the election. British observers including a journalist termed the elections a "tragedy for democracy" and a "cynically frustrated exercise".
