Gayle, North Yorkshire
Gayle is a hamlet sited south of Hawes in Wensleydale, North Yorkshire, England. The hamlet is noted for the beck that flows through it and the old mill, which featured on the BBC programme ''Restoration''. History Gayle was originally a farming settlement but the population grew during the late 18th century to around 350 with employment in local quarries, coal-mining in Sleddale and in a water-driven cotton mill on Gayle Beck. The beck is noted for its steep descent through Gayle into Hawes, and for the Aysgill waterfall, upstream of the hamlet. The population of the village later contracted. In modern times, the population of the hamlet is recorded within the Parish of Hawes for census purposes. Historically, the hamlet was in the Parish of Aysgarth, in the wapentake of Hang West. Gayle Language
Gayle, or Gail, is an English- and Afrikaans-based gay argot or slang used primarily by English and Afrikaans-speaking homosexual men in urban communities of South Africa, and is similar in some respects to Polari in the United Kingdom, from which some lexical items have been borrowed. The equivalent language used by gay South African men who speak Bantu languages is called ''IsiNgqumo'', and is based on a Nguni lexicon. Gayle originally manifested as ''moffietaal'' (Afrikaans: literally, "homosexual language") in the drag culture of the Cape Coloured community in the 1950s. It permeated into white homosexual circles in the 1960s and became part of mainstream white gay culture. Besides a few core words borrowed from Polari (such as the word ''varda'' meaning "to see", itself a borrowing from Lingua Franca), most of Gayle's words are alliterative formations using women's names, such as '' Beulah'' for "beauty", ''Priscilla'', meaning "police", and ''Hilda'' for "hideous". Amiga Custom Chips
In addition to the Amiga chipsets, various specially designed chips have been used in Commodore Amiga computers that do not belong to the 'Amiga chipset' in a tight sense. System logic Gary CSG 5719 ''Gary'', short for ''Gate Array'', has been used in the Amiga 500, 2000(B) and CDTV. Gary provides glue logic for bus control and houses supporting functions for the floppy disk drive. It integrates many functions built discretely in the earlier Amiga 1000 in order to reduce costs. Fat Gary ''Fat Gary'' was Gary's upgrade for the 32-bit A3000/T and A4000/T. Gayle ''Gayle'' replaced Gary in the A600 and A1200. It also incorporates the control logic for the PCMCIA and internal ATA interface on these systems. Akiko ''Akiko'' is the CD32's all-purpose 'glue' chip and forms part of the AGA chipset used in that system. Akiko is responsible for implementing system glue logic that in previous Amiga models were found in the discrete chips Budgie, Gayle and the two CIAs. In detail, it i ...
