Gaybo Laughs Back
''Gaybo Laughs Back'' is an hour-long Irish television special and DVD released in November 2008. It was broadcast on RTÉ One on 9 November 2008 at 18:30, whilst the DVD was released on 15 November 2008, with over forty minutes of bonus material. It features RTÉ personality Gay Byrne, who introduces some of the comedy highlights from his thirty-seven years at the helm of the long-running television series, '' The Late Late Show''. The special features international comedians such as Spike Milligan, John Cleese, Peter Cook and Billy Connolly, who all regularly visited ''The Late Late Show'', and Irish comedians such as Tommy Tiernan, Patrick Kielty, Dermot Morgan, Brendan O'Carroll, D'Unbelievables, Dylan Moran and Kevin McAleer, who all appeared on the show early in their careers. Comedy is a genre of fiction that consists of discourses or works intended to be humorous or amusing by inducing laughter, especially in theatre, film, stand-up comedy, television, radio, books, or any other entertainment medium. Patrick Kielty
Patrick Kielty (born 31 January 1971) is a Northern Irish comedian and television personality. Background Kielty was born in County Down, Northern Ireland, and grew up in the village of Dundrum. He is one of three sons born to the businessman John "Jack" Kielty, who was shot dead on 25 January 1988 by the Ulster Freedom Fighters (UFF), a cover name used by loyalist paramilitary group the Ulster Defence Association (UDA). John Kielty was to have been a key witness in Central Television's defence of a libel action brought by Jim Craig, who was suing the television company over a broadcast of ''The Cook Report'' which connected him to racketeering, and is said to have ordered John Kielty's murder. Emu (puppet)
Emu is a puppet emu which was given to British entertainer Rod Hull in the 1960s while he was presenting a children's breakfast television programme in Australia. Hull adopted the mute puppet for his cabaret act, and took it with him to the United Kingdom when he returned in 1970. The character was given a mischievous and sometimes aggressive onstage persona, attacking celebrity guests (and Hull himself) for comic effect. Hull and Emu also appeared on several episodes of The Hudson Brothers' comedy show in the United States. Emu's new series The first episode of Emu's new series, simply called ''Emu'', was broadcast on 8 October 2007. The first series was filmed in Belfast with shots at Queens Street Flats. Lenny Henry
Sir Lenworth George Henry (born 29 August 1958) is a British actor, comedian, singer, television presenter and writer. Henry gained success as a stand-up comedian and impressionist in the late 1970s and early 1980s, culminating in ''The Lenny Henry Show'' in 1984. He was the most prominent black British comedian of the time and much of his material served to celebrate and parody his African-Caribbean roots. In 1985, he cofounded the charity Comic Relief with the comedy screenwriter Richard Curtis. Kevin McAleer
Kevin McAleer (born 1956) is an Irish stand-up comedian. He came to prominence on the RTÉ television show '' Nighthawks'' which began broadcasting in the late 1980s. McAleer became known for his three-minute sketches of surreal rustic tales told in his slow County Tyrone drawl. One critic said that McAleer "''put the dead back into deadpan''". In 2022 he toured his one man show entitled ''Why am I Here'' and played the part of boring Uncle Colm in ''Derry Girls'' on Channel 4. Dylan Moran
Dylan William Moran ( ; born 3 November 1971) is an Irish comedian, writer, actor, artist and poet. He is best known for his observational comedy, the comedy series ''Black Books'' (which he co-wrote and starred in), and his work with Simon Pegg in films such as ''Shaun of the Dead'' and ''Run Fatboy Run''. He was also one of two lead characters in the Irish black comedy film ''A Film with Me in It''. D'Unbelievables
D'Unbelievables are a comedy duo from Ireland formed in the late 1980s by Pat Shortt and Jon Kenny in Limerick. Together they created characters which could be seen on every street corner and pub in Ireland. They toured extensively all over Ireland for almost a decade until Jon Kenny was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Disease in 2000. He has recovered and can be now seen in gigs all over Ireland. Pat Shortt meanwhile launched his solo career in the late 90s and was the main force behind the success of the RTÉ comedy series ''Killinaskully''. In December 2005, three of their past shows, "D'Video", "D'Telly", and "D'Mother", were released on DVD for the first time. The DVD was entitled ''D'Collection''. Dermot John Morgan (31 March 1952 – 28 February 1998) was an Irish comedian and actor, best known for his role as Father Ted Crilly in the Channel 4 sitcom ''Father Ted''. Early life Morgan was born in Dublin, the son of Hilda "Holly" (née Stokes) and artist and sculptor Donnchadh Morgan. His father died young of an aneurysm, leaving Holly with four children: Dermot, Paul, Denise, and Ruth, the last of whom died in childhood.
