Gavin Crawford (footballer)
Gavin Crawford (24 January 1869 – 2 March 1955) was a Scottish footballer who played as a winger or midfielder. Crawford had spells at clubs Woolwich Arsenal, Sheffield United, Millwall and Queens Park Rangers. Playing career Crawford started playing for Glasgow side Fairfield Rangers, with whom he won the Scottish Junior Cup. Onward he moved to join in 1890 Sheffield United of the Midland Counties League. He stayed at Bramall Lane for just over half of a season, playing in eight competitive fixtures altogether. After leaving the Blades, Crawford moved to London to join Woolwich Arsenal, becoming the first professional player for the side. Crawford at first played for Arsenal in the role of a right-winger only to alter his position to be a midfielder. He at once became a regular as the club joined the Football League in 1893. Galston ( Lowland Scots: ''Gauston'', Scottish Gaelic: ''Baile nan Gall'') is a municipality in East Ayrshire, Scotland, which has a population of 5,001 (2001) and is at the heart of the civil parish of the same name. It is situated in wooded countryside four miles up-river from Kilmarnock and is one a group of the small towns located in the Irvine Valley between the towns of Hurlford and Newmilns. To the north of the town is the ruin of Loudoun Castle, the site of Loudoun Castle theme park from 1995 to 2010. In 1874 the population was 4,727. Joe Powell (footballer, Born 1870)
Joseph Joshua Powell (1870 – 29 November 1896) was an English footballer who was captain of Woolwich Arsenal in their first season of League football. He is one of the few footballers to die as a result of an injury incurred while playing. Life and career Born in Bristol in 1870, Powell had joined the Army as a young man, and served for six years in the South Staffordshire Regiment. He played football for the regimental team, and impressed enough in a match against the then Royal Arsenal in October 1892 that the club bought him out of the Army and signed him as a professional that December. Having turned professional, Arsenal had been shunned by many other clubs and county associations, and only competed in FA Cup matches and friendlies. A strong and purposeful right back, Powell immediately became a regular in the Arsenal side. Adam Haywood
Adam Seymour Haywood (23 March 1875 – May 1932) was an English footballer who played as an inside-forward. Some sources spell his surname as ''Heywood'' or ''Hayward''. Biography Haywood was born in Horninglow, Burton upon Trent. He turned professional with Woolwich Arsenal in January 1896; he made his debut against Leicester Fosse on 25 January 1896 and was an ever-present for the rest of the 1895-96 season. He continued to play as a mainstay in the Arsenal side the following three seasons, scoring regularly as well (his best being 1898-99, when he scored 12 goals in 23 league games). In total he played 91 times for Arsenal, scoring 36 goals, but Arsenal's financial situation meant they were forced to accept a £50 bid from Glossop North End in May 1899. The Manor Ground located in Plumstead, south east London was a football stadium. This arena was the home of football club Royal Arsenal, which was later named Woolwich Arsenal, and as so came to be known as Arsenal F.C. History Under their original name of Dial Square, the club's very first match in December 1886 was on a field in the Isle of Dogs, that's close to Glengall Road which is now known as Tiller Road. After such, during the remainder of the 1886–87 season, the club which was newly renamed Royal Arsenal played upon Plumstead Common. They moved in September 1887 to a field on Plumstead Marshes, which was renamed the Sportsman Ground after the Sportsman pub nearby. They continued to play there for the next six months.
