Gauri (poem)
''Gauri'' ( ne, गौरी; first edition: 2015 BS (1959-60 AD)) is an eponymous tragic epic written by Nepali "National Poet" ( ne, राष्ट्रकवि) Madhav Prasad Ghimire, in memory of his first wife, following her premature death. It is widely regarded as one of the poet's finest works; it is also the most popular. Ghimire has named ''Gauri'' as one of his favourites, among his works. Inspiration Madhav Prasad Ghimire, at fifteen years of age, was married to his first wife Gauri Pokharel, herself aged only ten, in 1990 BS. She died after eleven years of marriage in which they had two children together. Development In ''Mādhava Ghimirekā viśishṭa khaṇḍakāvya'', Bhanubhakta Pokharel opined that most of the epic seems to have been completed by 2005 BS. Madhav Prasad Ghimire
Madhav Prasad Ghimire ( ne, माधव प्रसाद घिमिरे; 23 September 191918 August 2020) was a Nepali poet and scholar. He was honoured as the ''Rashtrakavi'' (National Poet) by the Government of Nepal in 2003. Some of his acclaimed works include '' Gauri'', '' Malati Mangale'', ''Shakuntala'' and ''Himalwari Himalpari''. Born in Lamjung, and educated in Kathmandu and Banaras, Ghimire had a career in literature spanning 86 years in which he wrote epic poems, plays and essays, composed popular songs like "Gaucha Geet Nepali" and "Nepali Hami Rahaula Kaha", and contributed to and edited literary journals and newspapers. He was the Vice Chancellor of the Royal Nepal Academy for 10 years and Chancellor for two more. He was composing another one of his epics, ''Ritambhara,'' when he died of respiratory problems in August 2020, aged 100. Korean ( South Korean: , ''hangugeo''; North Korean: , ''chosŏnmal'') is the native language for about 80 million people, mostly of Korean descent. Poetry (derived from the Greek ''poiesis'', "making"), also called verse, is a form of literature that uses aesthetic and often rhythmic qualities of language − such as phonaesthetics, sound symbolism, and metre − to evoke meanings in addition to, or in place of, a prosaic ostensible meaning. Prithviraj Chauhan (epic)
''Prithiviraj Chauhan'' () is a Nepali-language epic ('' mahakavya'') by ''Mahakavi'' Laxmi Prasad Devkota. It was written in 1946 and was published in 2049 BS () by Sajha Prakashan. It is based on the life of Prithviraj Chauhan. It is one of the six ''mahakavya'' composed by the poet. It is written in ''Jhyaure'' ''chhanda'' (folk Nepali metre). Background It is estimated that Devkota wrote this epic in 1946 when he was a lecturer at Tri-Chandra College. It was published posthumously by the publication itself. The manuscript was kept away in some place for many years. There were lots of scribbling in the manuscript. The publishing housed contacted the copyeditor, Shyam Das Vaishnav and Devkota's son Padma Devkota for their help. In the manuscript among the 16 cantos, the 15th canto was missing. Muna Madan
''Muna Madan'' ( ne, मुनामदन) is a 1936 Nepali-language episodic love poem written by Laxmi Prasad Devkota. It is about Madan, newly married to Muna, who leaves for Lhasa in Tibet to make his fortune, despite protests from his wife. Synopsis ''Muna Madan'' follows the life of Madan, a Chhetri man from Kathmandu who leaves Muna, his wife, to go to Lhasa to earn a fortune. He is cautioned against leaving by both Muna and his elderly mother, but he decides to leave anyway. While he initially intends to spend just a few weeks in Lhasa, he spends a longer time there, becoming entranced by the city's beauty. He finally sets off for Kathmandu but falls sick with cholera on the way. His travelling companion, Ram, returns to Kathmandu and tells Muna that her husband has died. Malati Mangale
''Malati Mangale'' ( ne, मालती मङ्गले) is a musical drama written by Madhav Prasad Ghimire in 2039 BS (AD 1982–83). One of author's most popular works, and considered one of the best ballets by Nepali poets, it is based on true events from a village in Gorkha. Adaptation It was recorded for the first time as a musical recording in 2044 BS (AD 1987–88). Ghimire brought together music composer Ambar Gurung and singer Narayan Gopal, who were not on speaking terms at the time, to collaborate on the cassette recording of the play. Narayan Gopal could not be convinced to work together with singer Tara Devi; the two recorded their duet with a partition wall between them in the recording studio. Initially, the company was focused in production of folk songs from different parts of the country in cassettes medium. Gradually, the company started recording various genres of music.
