Gaston Leroux (born 1 October 1948) was a member of the House of Commons of Canada from 1993 to 1997. His career background includes consulting and comedy performance. He was born in Montreal, Quebec. He was elected in the Richmond—Wolfe electoral district under the Bloc Québécois party in the 1993 federal election, thus serving in the 35th Canadian Parliament. Due to 1996 riding boundary realignments, Leroux campaigned in the 1997 federal election at the Richmond—Arthabaska electoral district but was defeated by Progressive Conservative André Bachand. The House of Commons of Canada (french: Chambre des communes du Canada) is the lower house of the Parliament of Canada. Together with the Crown and the Senate of Canada, they comprise the bicameral legislature of Canada. The House of Commons is a democratically elected body whose members are known as members of Parliament (MPs). The Progressive Conservative Party of Canada (PC; french: Parti progressiste-conservateur du Canada) was a centre-right federal political party in Canada that existed from 1942 to 2003. From Canadian Confederation in 1867 until 1942, the original Conservative Party of Canada participated in numerous governments and had multiple names. In 1942, its name was changed to the Progressive Conservative Party under the request of Manitoba Progressive Premier John Bracken. In the 1957 federal election, John Diefenbaker carried the Tories to their first victory in 27 years. Compton—Stanstead is a federal electoral district in Quebec, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 1997. It was created in 1996 from Mégantic—Compton—Stanstead and Richmond—Wolfe ridings. Geography The southern Quebec riding on the US border southeast of Sherbrooke is located in the Quebec region of Estrie. André Bachand (born December 8, 1961) is a Canadian politician, who represented the riding of Richmond—Arthabaska as member of the Progressive Conservatives from 1997 to 2003. When the PC Party was merged with the Canadian Alliance into the Conservative Party in December 2003, Bachand left the party and sat as an "Independent Progressive Conservative" until the 2004 election, and then retired from the House of Commons.
