Gary Woollard
Gary John Woollard (15 August 1942 – 15 August 2021) was a New Zealand professional rugby league footballer who represented New Zealand, including at the 1970 World Cup. Playing career After growing up in Auckland, Woollard moved to Wellington in 1961, joining the Miramar club in the Wellington Rugby League competition. Miramar won the Wellington premiership in 1962, again in 1964 and shared a third with Waterside in 1966. Woollard made his debut for the New Zealand national rugby league team in 1963 as a Wellington representative. He next played for the Kiwis in 1967, by which time he was now representing Auckland. Waiuku
Waiuku is a rural town in the Auckland Region in the North Island of New Zealand. It is located at the southern end of the Waiuku River, which is an estuarial arm of the Manukau Harbour, and lies on the isthmus of the Āwhitu Peninsula, which extends to the northeast. It is 40 kilometres southwest of Auckland city centre, and 12 kilometres north of the mouth of the Waikato River. The town serves to support local farming, and is the residence of many employees of New Zealand Steel at Glenbrook, which is four kilometres to the northeast. The Auckland Rugby League (ARL) is the governing body for the sport of rugby league in the Auckland Region of New Zealand. It is responsible for rugby league in the region, including both club and school rugby league. It began in 1910 when the first season of club league in Auckland occurred. The first match was a practice game between Newton Rangers and Ponsonby United at Victoria Park which Ponsonby won 17 to 15. The first full club season was in 1910. The Auckland Rugby League was once recognised by England's Northern Rugby Football Union as New Zealand's governing body for the game of rugby league. In 2009, the ARL celebrated its centenary. The Auckland Rugby League competition has been competed for since 1909 when the first organised match was played between North Shore and City Rovers (won 44–22 by North Shore). The following year an official champion was crowned for the first time, namely the City Rovers club who won the 1910 1st Grade title and were one of the 4 original teams at that time ( City Rovers, Devonport United, Newton Rangers, and Ponsonby United).
