Carolyn Bolivar-Getson
Carolyn Bolivar-Getson (born February 10, 1964) is a Canadian politician. She represented the electoral district of Lunenburg West in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 2003 to 2009 as a member of the Progressive Conservatives. Born in 1964 at Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, Bolivar-Getson graduated from Saint Mary's University with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. She owned and operated a general store in Newcombville. In 1997, she was elected as a municipal councillor in Lunenburg County. Bolivar-Getson entered provincial politics in the 2003 election, winning the Lunenburg West riding. Mark Furey
Mark Ignatius Furey is a Canadian politician and retired police officer, who was elected to the Nova Scotia House of Assembly in the 2013 provincial election. A member of the Nova Scotia Liberal Party, he represented the electoral district of Lunenburg West until his retirement from politics in 2021. Furey is a retired police officer, having served in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. On October 22, 2013 Furey was appointed to the Executive Council of Nova Scotia where he served as Minister of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations, as well as Minister responsible for Part II of the Gaming Control Act and the Minister responsible for the Residential Tenancies Act. Nova Scotia New Democratic Party
The Nova Scotia New Democratic Party is a social-democratic, progressive provincial party in Nova Scotia, Canada. It is the provincial entity of the federal New Democratic Party (NDP). It was founded as the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) in 1932, and became the New Democratic Party in 1961. It became the governing party of Nova Scotia following the 2009 Nova Scotia election, winning 31 seats in the Legislature, under the leadership of Premier Darrell Dexter. It is the first New Democratic Party in Atlantic Canada to form a government, and the second to form a government in a province east of Manitoba. The 2013 Nova Scotia general election was held on October 8, 2013, to elect members to the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. The result of the election was a Liberal victory under the leadership of Stephen McNeil, with the party winning its first election since 1998. The Progressive Conservatives, under the leadership of Jamie Baillie, improved on their 2009 results and formed the Official Opposition, despite winning fewer votes than the New Democratic Party (NDP).
