Garston is a suburban village in Hertfordshire, England. Garston is contiguous with Watford and now, despite retaining a local identity, is effectively a suburb. It is within the Stanborough, Woodside and Meriden Ward (politics), wards of the borough of Watford, although a small number of its streets are in Hertsmere. The Building Research Establishment has its headquarters within Garston. Garston has several large secondary schools including St Michael's Catholic High School, Parmiter's School and Future Academies Watford, formerly known as Francis Combe. The A41 is the perceived border of Garston and North Watford; it crosses St Albans Road (A412) at the Dome Roundabout. Garston railway station serves the Garston area of Watford in Hertfordshire, England. It is the third station on the Abbey Line after Watford Junction and Watford North. The station and all trains serving it are operated by London Northwestern Railway. Like all the other stations on the branch, Garston is an unstaffed railway halt. At opening by British Rail in 1966 it was a welcome addition to a branch which was otherwise being heavily rationalised. History The station was opened by the Mayor of Watford on 7 February 1966. Garston, Liverpool
Garston is a district of Liverpool. Historically in Lancashire, it is bordered by the suburbs of Grassendale, Allerton, and Speke. It lies on the Eastern banks of the River Mersey. History In medieval times, Garston was home to a group of Benedictine monks. The first recorded mention of settlement in Garston is of the Church of St Michael in 1235. By the 19th century, the area had become a small village, one of the eight townships forming the parish of Childwall. A small dock was first built at Garston in 1793 for Blackburne's Saltworks, which still stands today. Garston's growth accelerated rapidly in the 1840s, when in 1846, the area's first dock was constructed and opened, under the auspices of the St Helens and Runcorn Gap Railway Company. Garston railway station was a railway station in the Garston, Liverpool, Garston district of Liverpool, England. The station was located on the Northern Line (Merseyrail), Northern Line of the Merseyrail suburban rail network. The station was closed in 2006 when it was replaced by Liverpool South Parkway railway station, Liverpool South Parkway, which is a combined interchange station, bus and rail interchange. The proximity of the stations was so close the platforms of South Parkway nearly merged onto the Garston station's platforms.
