Garforth Comprehensive School
Garforth Academy (formerly known as Garforth Comprehensive School until September 1992 and Garforth Community College until November 2010) is a secondary school and sixth form for pupils aged 11–18 and is located on Lidgett Lane (B6137) in Garforth, West Yorkshire, England. The school been awarded the Artsmark (2002), Investors in People Award, (2003), Schools Achievement Award, (2003), Education Extra award, (2001), Sportsmark (2002), and Beacon School status (2000), and OFSTED described the school in 2010 (before it changed to academy status) as an "outstanding school". History The school was opened as Garforth Comprehensive School in 1967. Barbara Castle, Member of Parliament for Blackburn, performed an official opening of the school on 11 October 1969. Academy (English School)
An academy school in England is a state-funded school which is directly funded by the Department for Education and independent of local authority control. Brigshaw High School
Brigshaw High School is a coeducational secondary school and sixth form located in the village of Allerton Bywater, West Yorkshire, England. History The school was opened in September 1972 with only 3 buildings within the school grounds, the main block, music and the sports block. In the first academic year, the school consisted of a first and second year from feeder schools and additional pupils from Sherburn High School. The first headmaster was a Mr Rollinson. Chris Silverwood
Christopher Eric Wilfred Silverwood (born 5 March 1975) is a former international cricketer and a former head coach of the England cricket team. He is currently the Head Coach of the Sri Lanka Cricket Team. Early life and domestic playing career Born in Pontefract, West Yorkshire, Silverwood was educated at Garforth Comprehensive School, and as a right-arm fast bowler, made his debut for Yorkshire County Cricket Club in 1993. Gary Keedy
Gary Keedy (born 27 November 1974) is a retired English cricketer. A slow-left arm spin bowler, he played one match for Yorkshire in 1994, having graduated from their cricket academy, before moving to Lancashire in 1995. He played for the club until 2012 taking over 500 first-class wickets. Although he had played youth internationals, he never played for the senior England team, although he was named in the squad a few times. In 2011 he was part of the Lancashire squad that won the County Championship for the first time since 1950. Keedy subsequently played one season for Surrey and two for Nottinghamshire before retiring as a professional cricketer in 2015. Oliver Robert McBurnie (born 4 June 1996) is a professional footballer who plays as a striker for club Sheffield United and the Scotland national team. James Denny (born 20 September 1993) is a British diver from Leeds who specialises in events from the 10 m platform. Career Denny started diving in 2005. His first achievements at international level came with the 2011 Junior European Championships where he classified 4th from the 1 m springboard and 6th from the 10 m platform. During the period 2011-2014 he competed at the British Championships, where he collected several medals. He represented England at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, winning a silver medal alongside his partner Tom Daley in the 10 m platform synchro, and classifying 6th in the individual event.
