Gangster Squad (film)
''Gangster Squad'' is a 2013 American Action film, action Crime film, crime thriller film directed by Ruben Fleischer, written by Will Beall, based on the non-fiction book by Paul Lieberman, and starring Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Nick Nolte, Emma Stone, Anthony Mackie, Giovanni Ribisi, Robert Patrick, Michael Peña and Sean Penn. Set in 1949, it is a fictionalized account of the group of real-life LAPD officers and detectives, called the Gangster Squad (LAPD), Gangster Squad, who brought down crime kingpin Mickey Cohen and his gang. After the script spent several years on the Black List (survey), Black List, production began in September 2011 around Los Angeles, lasting through December. Ruben Samuel Fleischer (born October 31, 1974) is an American film director, film producer, television producer, music video director, and commercial director who lives in Montclair, New Jersey. He is best known as the director of ''Zombieland'' (2009), his first feature film, and its sequel '' Zombieland: Double Tap'' (2019). He has also directed the films '' 30 Minutes or Less'', '' Gangster Squad'', ''Uncharted'', and 2018's ''Venom'' featuring the Marvel Comics character of the same name. 2012 Aurora, Colorado, Shooting
On July 20, 2012, a mass shooting occurred inside a Century 16 movie theater in Aurora, Colorado, United States, during a midnight screening of the film ''The Dark Knight Rises''. Dressed in tactical clothing, James Holmes set off tear gas grenades and shot into the audience with multiple firearms. Twelve people were killed and 70 others were injured, 58 of them from gunfire. It was the deadliest shooting in Colorado since the Columbine High School massacre in 1999. At the time, the event had the largest number of victims (82) in one shooting in modern U.S. history. This number was later surpassed by the 107 victims of the 2016 Orlando nightclub shooting. Holmes was arrested minutes later in his car outside the cinema. Black List (survey)
The Black List is an annual survey methodology, survey of the "most-liked" motion picture screenplays not yet produced. It has been published every year since 2005 on the second Friday of December by Franklin Leonard, a development executive who subsequently worked at Universal Studios, Universal Pictures and Will Smith's Overbrook Entertainment. The website states that these are not necessarily "the best" screenplays, but rather "the most liked", since it is based on a survey of film studio, studio and production company executives. Meyer Harris "Mickey" Cohen (September 4, 1913 – July 29, 1976) was an American gangster, boxer and entrepreneur based in Los Angeles during the mid-20th century. Early life Mickey Cohen was born on September 4, 1913, in New York City to Jewish parents. Cohen's parents immigrated to the USA from Kyiv. He was first raised in New York City, moving with his mother and siblings to the Boyle Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles at an early age. The Gangster Squad, later known as the Organized Crime Intelligence Division (OCID), was a special unit created by the Los Angeles Police Department in 1946 to keep the East Coast Mafia and organized crime elements out of Los Angeles. Origin The squad was created by then Chief of Police Clemence B. Horrall in 1946. Initially organized as an eight-man intelligence detail, it became popularly known as the Gangster Squad. Grauman's Chinese Theatre (branded as TCL Chinese Theatre for naming rights reasons) is a movie palace on the historic Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6925 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, United States.
