Gammel Køgegård
Gammel Køgegård is a manor house located just west of Køge, Denmark. History Early history Originally, Køge was located in the grounds of present-day Gammel Køgegård, approximately 1 km inland from the current town centre. Remains of a church have been found in the orchard of the estate. When sedimentation made the beach and marshlands along the coast suitable for building, the settlement relocated to the bay and Old Køge shrank to a few scattered houses. Little is known about the earliest history of Gammel Køgegård. It was acquired by the noble Bille family in the 16th century. In 1603, Elisabeth Bille, who had inherited the family's possessions in Old Køge from her father, started construction of a house which would stand at the site for almost two hundred years. Later in the century, the estate came under the ownership of the Skeel family and grew considerably. Neoclassical architecture is an architectural style produced by the Neoclassical movement that began in the mid-18th century in Italy and France. It became one of the most prominent architectural styles in the Western world. The prevailing styles of architecture in most of Europe for the previous two centuries, Renaissance architecture and Baroque architecture, already represented partial revivals of the Classical architecture of ancient Rome and (much less) ancient Greek architecture, but the Neoclassical movement aimed to strip away the excesses of Late Baroque and return to a purer and more authentic classical style, adapted to modern purposes. Hofjægermester
Hofjægermester (hunting master of the court) is an honorary court title awarded to a limited number of (major and usually noble) land owners (''godsejere'') by the Danish monarch. The title was introduced in Denmark-Norway during the period of absolute monarchy. Today, it's solely an honorary title. As of the 01.03.2019, 52 persons hold the title in Denmark whereof 42 are men and 10 are women. The title was also used during the Swedish-Norwegian Union, but its use was discontinued in Sweden and Norway. In Norway, the title was spelled ''Hofjægermester'' when the title was used (until 1905), although the modern spelling would be ''hoffjegermester''. The Swedish spelling is ''hovjägmästare''. Frijsenborg
Frijsenborg is a manor house and estate near Hammel, northwest of Aarhus in Jutland, Denmark. The first manor on the site known as Jernit was built by Valdemar Parberg in 1583. After the statesman Mogens Friis acquired the property in 1672, the manor was rebuilt at the end of the 17th century. In the 1860s, it was considerably expanded and redesigned in the Renaissance style. History and architecture The property stands on the site of the former village of Jernit which had existed since the 15th century. In 1558, King Christian III gave orders for Jernit Parish to be combined with Hammel Parish which required Jernit Church to be demolished. In 1583, the king transferred ownership of the village to the nobleman Valdemar Parsberg who demolished all its buildings. Landstinget
Landstinget was the upper house of the Rigsdag (the parliament of Denmark), from 1849 until 1953, when the bicameral system was abolished in favour of unicameralism. Landstinget had powers equal to the Folketing, which made the two houses of parliament hard to distinguish. Originally, membership and the electorate was restricted, and the members were largely conservatives. Membership of the house was then restricted to certain sectors of society: only males with a certain net worth could hold a seat. Rhododendron
''Rhododendron'' (; from Ancient Greek ''rhódon'' "rose" and ''déndron'' "tree") is a very large genus of about 1,024 species of woody plants in the heath family (Ericaceae).
