2021 Mugu Bus Accident
On 12 October 2021, a bus carrying 45 passengers from Nepalgunj to Gamgadhi in Nepal, fell into a river in Chhayanath Rara Municipality, killing 32 people including the driver. Accident On Monday 11 October, a passenger bus carrying 45 passengers was heading to Gamgadhi, Mugu District from Nepalgunj, Banke District. Most of the people on the bus were migrant workers and students returning home to celebrate Dashain, a major Hindu festival in Nepal. On Tuesday 12 October, when the bus reached Chhayanath Rara, it fell 300 meters down into a river, Pinatapane Khola, killing 24 people on the spot and critically injuring 18 people. Nepali Army arrived at the scene to rescue and fly the injured passengers to various hospitals in Nepal including in Mugu, Kohalpur, and Nepalgunj. Mugu District
Mugu District ( ne, मुगु जिल्ला ), a part of Karnali Province, is one of the seventy-seven districts of Nepal. The district, with Gamgadhi as its district headquarters, covers an area of and had a population (2011) of 55,286. Mugu is known for being both the most remote district in Nepal, as well as the least developed. Geography and climate Mugu's geography is very rugged. The biggest lake in Nepal, Rara Lake, also known as ''Mahendra Daha'', lies in Mugu District. It is one of the biggest districts of Nepal. Pulu is one of the more well-known villages of the Mugu district. Karnali Zone
Karnali Zone ( ne, खसान अञ्चल) was one of the fourteen zones located in the Mid-Western Development Region of Nepal. The headquarters of Karnali Zone was Jumla. Karnali Zone was one of the poorest and most remote regions of Nepal, not very accessible by road yet. There are airfields in all districts except Kalikot which is connected seasonally by roadways to Jumla Airport. Karnali Zone was the largest zone of Nepal, with two national parks. Districts in Nepal are second level of administrative divisions after provinces. Districts are subdivided in municipalities and rural municipalities. There are seven provinces and 77 districts in Nepal. A village development committee ( ne, गाउँ विकास समिति; ''gāum̐ vikās samiti'') in Nepal was the lower administrative part of its Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development. Each district had several VDCs, similar to municipalities but with greater public-government interaction and administration. There were 3,157 village development committees in Nepal. Each village development committee was further divided into several wards ( ne, वडा) depending on the population of the district, the average being nine wards. Until the establishment of seven new provinces in 2015, Nepal was divided into 14 administrative zones ( Nepali: अञ्चल; ''anchal'') and 77 districts ( Nepali: जिल्ला; ''jillā''). Nepal Standard Time (NPT) is the time zone for Nepal. With a time offset from Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) of UTC+05:45 all over Nepal, it is one of only three time zones with a 45-minute offset from UTC.The others are Chatham Island Standard Time, with an offset of UTC+12:45, and the unofficial Australian Central Western Time, with an offset of UTC+08:45.
