Game Masters (exhibition)
''Game Masters: The Exhibition'' was an exhibition curated by the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI). The exhibition was designed to highlight the key designers who have had a large influence on video games and video game culture. Following the showing at ACMI, the exhibition began to tour internationally. Conrad Bodman, who also curated '' Game On'', is the curator of the exhibition. The exhibition included over 125 playable games from over 30 different designers as well as concept and development artwork. Interview events with game designers have been hosted on location by ABC's Stephanie 'Hex' Bendixsen. Australian Centre For The Moving Image
ACMI, formerly the Australian Centre for the Moving Image, is Australia's national museum of film, television, videogames, and art. ACMI was established in 2002 and is based at Federation Square in Melbourne, Victoria. During the 2014-15 financial year, 1.3 million people visited ACMI, the second-highest attendance of any gallery or museum in Australia. Dave Theurer
David Theurer is a game designer and computer programmer. In 1980, he created the ''Missile Command'' and ''Tempest'' arcade games for Atari, Inc., considered two of the major releases from the Golden age of arcade games. Theurer also designed ''I, Robot'' for Atari, the first commercial video game with 3D filled-polygonal graphics. Early life David attended Wheaton College in Chicago initially following a path in Chemistry and then Physics, but with two years to go until completion changed once more to Psychology, earning a degree. He has said that earning the degree had helped him create addictive games by using the same techniques originally used on pigeons. David worked for the college data processing center for approximately six months after graduating. Donkey Kong (video Game)
is a 1981 arcade video game developed and published by Nintendo. As Mario, the player runs and jumps on platforms and climbs ladders to ascend a construction site and rescue Pauline from the giant gorilla Donkey Kong. It is the first game in the '' Donkey Kong'' series as well as Mario's first appearance in a video game. ''Donkey Kong'' is the product of Nintendo's efforts to develop a hit to rival ''Pac-Man'' (1980) and break into the North American market. Shigeru Miyamoto
is a Japanese video game designer, producer and game director at Nintendo, where he serves as one of its representative directors. Widely regarded as one of the most accomplished and influential designers in the history of video games, he is the creator of some of the most acclaimed and best-selling game franchises of all time, including ''Mario,'' ''The Legend of Zelda'', ''Donkey Kong'', ''Star Fox'' and ''Pikmin.'' Tower Of Druaga
is a 1984 arcade action role-playing maze game developed and published in Japan by Namco. Controlling the golden-armored knight Gilgamesh, the player is tasked with scaling 60 floors of the titular tower in an effort to rescue the maiden Ki from Druaga, a demon with eight arms and four legs, who plans to use an artifact known as the Blue Crystal Rod to enslave all of mankind. Xevious
is a vertically scrolling shooter video game developed and published by Namco for arcades in 1982. It was released in Japan and Europe by Namco and in North America by Atari, Inc. Controlling the Solvalou starship, the player attacks Xevious forces before they destroy all of mankind. The Solvalou has two weapons at its disposal: a ''zapper'' to destroy flying craft, and a ''blaster'' to bomb ground installations and enemies. It runs on the Namco Galaga arcade system. Eugene Peyton Jarvis is an American game designer and video game programmer, known for producing pinball machines for Atari and video games for Williams Electronics. Most notable among his works are the seminal arcade video games '' Defender'' and '' Robotron: 2084'' in the early 1980s, and the ''Cruis'n'' series of driving games for Midway Games in the 1990s. ''Centipede'' is a 1981 fixed shooter arcade game developed and published by Atari, Inc. Designed by Dona Bailey and Ed Logg, it was one of the most commercially successful games from the golden age of arcade video games and one of the first with a significant female player base. ''Asteroids'' is a space-themed multidirectional shooter arcade game designed by Lyle Rains and Ed Logg released in November 1979 by Atari, Inc. The player controls a single spaceship in an asteroid field which is periodically traversed by flying saucers. The object of the game is to shoot and destroy the asteroids and saucers, while not colliding with either, or being hit by the saucers' counter-fire.
