Gamboa (Rio De Janeiro)
Gamboa is a neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Gamboa, along with Santo Cristo and Saúde, is one of the oldest boroughs of Rio. It was originally settled by the aristocracy, due to the attractive position on the shores of Guanabara Bay, but lost its glamour when the docks were built. Along with this history, the area also hosts The English Cemetery at Gamboa, one of the oldest British institutions in Rio. In 1809, Dom João VI ceded to the British two and a half acres of farmland along the shore of the bay. Saúde is a neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Its population in 2000 was 2186. Located on the coast, just north of the historical centre in downtown Rio, west of Praça Maua and east of Gamboa, Rio de Janeiro, it contains several notable hospitals such as Hospital dos Servidores de Estado and Hospital Pro Matre; the name Saúde means "Health" in Portuguese. Percy Clinton Sydney Smythe, 6th Viscount Strangford (31 August 178029 May 1855) was an Anglo-Irish diplomat. Early life He was the son of Lionel Smythe, 5th Viscount Strangford (1753–1801) and Maria Eliza Philipse. In 1769, his sixteen-year-old future father left Ireland, joined the army and served during the American War of Independence. While quartered in New York in the winter of 1776 to 1777, he met and courted Maria.
