Gambia–Malaysia Relations
Malaysia–The Gambia relations refers to bilateral foreign relations between the two countries, Malaysia and The Gambia. Malaysian embassy in Dakar, Senegal is accredited to The Gambia while Gambian embassy in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates is accredited to Malaysia. The relations are friendly and warm. Both The Gambia and Malaysia are part of the Commonwealth of Nations and are members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. Economic relations In 1974, The Gambia was willing to sell its groundnut oil to Malaysia in exchange for palm oil. While in 1991, Gambia seeks Malaysian aid to boost its rice production. Bilateralism is the conduct of political, economic, or cultural relations between two sovereign states. It is in contrast to unilateralism or multilateralism, which is activity by a single state or jointly by multiple states, respectively. When states recognize one another as sovereign states and agree to diplomatic relations, they create a bilateral relationship. States with bilateral ties will exchange diplomatic agents such as ambassadors to facilitate dialogues and cooperations. Palm oil is an edible vegetable oil derived from the mesocarp (reddish pulp) of the fruit of the oil palms. The oil is used in food manufacturing, in beauty products, and as biofuel. Palm oil accounted for about 33% of global oils produced from oil crops in 2014. Palm oils are easier to stabilize and maintain quality of flavor and consistency in processed foods, so are frequently favored by food manufacturers. On average globally, humans consumed 7.7 kg (17 lb) of palm oil per person in 2015. Syariah Court
Syariah (the Malay spelling of "Sharia") refers to Sharia law in Islamic religious law and deals with exclusively Islamic laws, having jurisdiction upon every Muslim in Malaysia. The Syariah Court system is one of the two separate court systems which exist in the general Malaysian legal system. There is a parallel system of state Syariah Courts, which have limited jurisdiction over matters of state Islamic law. Syariah Courts have jurisdiction only over Muslims in matters relating to family law and religious observance, and can generally only pass sentences of not more than three years' imprisonment, a fine of up to RM5,000, and/or up to six strokes of the cane. ''The Daily Observer'' is a newspaper published in Bakau in Banjul, the Gambia. The paper, Gambia's first daily newspaper,Gabriel I. H. Williams, ''Liberia: the heart of darkness'', Trafford Publishing, 2002, p.333 was founded by Mae Gene and Kenneth Best in 1990. Kenneth Best had previously managed another paper called the ''Daily Observer'' in Liberia, until the First Liberian Civil War caused him to relocate with his family to the Gambia.
