Galax City Public Schools
Galax High School is a high school located in the independent city of Galax, Virginia, United States. History There has been substantial growth within the Galax City Public School System since the original promoters of the town allocated ten acres of pine grove for public school purposes. The first public school offered a two-year high school program and had six graduates in 1909. In 1912 it became a four-year high school with five graduates. A new and separate high school building was begun in 1953. Improvements continued at intervals with a cafeteria, auditorium, and gymnasium being added in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The most recent renovation, completed in Spring of 2009, included new windows and doors, a new heating and cooling system, and an upgrade in the electrical systems. Galax is an independent city in the southwestern part of the Commonwealth of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 6,720. The Bureau of Economic Analysis combines the city of Galax with neighboring Carroll County for statistical purposes. Galax is bounded to the northeast by Carroll County and to the southwest by Grayson County. A Mountain Empire District
The A Mountain Empire District is a high school conference of the Virginia High School League which draws its members from Southwest Virginia, west of the Roanoke metropolitan area. The schools in the Mountain Empire District compete in A Region C with the schools of the A Hogoheegee District, the A Pioneer District and the A Three Rivers District. Mount Rogers is one of the two remaining consolidated K-12 schools in Virginia, due to its position at the extreme western end of Grayson County making it inadvisable to consolidate it into Grayson County High School. Its enrollment is typically around 25-30 students in grades 9-12, and so its participation in VHSL team activities will be sporadic. Page County High School
Page County High School is a public secondary school located in Shenandoah, Virginia. The dedication of the original building in 1961 brought together students from the former Shenandoah and Stanley high schools. It holds grade levels 9-12 (freshmen through seniors) and has an enrollment of approximately 550 students. The feeder school is Page County Middle School, which is in turn fed by Shenandoah Elementary and Stanley Elementary schools, and formerly Grove Hill Elementary School. Page County High School has an auditorium with a capacity of approximately 700 people, a gym with retractable bleachers on two sides, a full library, a cafeteria that feeds students in two 25 minute blocks each day, and three computer labs.
