Gaisal Railway Station
Gaisal railway station is a railway station on Katihar–Siliguri branch of Howrah–New Jalpaiguri line in the Katihar railway division of Northeast Frontier Railway zone. It is situated beside National Highway 31 at Dhantola, Gaisal of Uttar Dinajpur district in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is also remembered for the famous Gaisal train disaster. Uttar Dinajpur District
Uttar Dinajpur () is a district of the Indian state of West Bengal. Created on 1 April 1992 by the division of the erstwhile West Dinajpur district, it comprises two subdivisions: Raiganj and Islampur. History Undivided Dinajpur district was part of the Pundra kingdom. The whole of Pundra was part of the Mauryan empire, and Jainism was spread in the region in the fourth century BCE. Their capital was at Pundrabardhan (now in Bangladesh), and two other ancient towns were Gourpur and Kotibarsha, now called Bangarh. Later multiple inscriptions show how the Guptas also controlled Pundra. The district was then under Pala rule from 750 CE. The Senas overthrew the Palas in 1143. In 1204, Bakhtiyar Khilji defeated the Senas and had Bangarh as its capital. After his murder, it was controlled by various governors sent by the Delhi Sultan from Gauda. Howrah–New Jalpaiguri Line

Gaisal Train Disaster
The Gaisal train disaster occurred on 2 August 1999, when two trains carrying about 2,500 people collided at the remote station of Gaisal in West Bengal. Owing to a signalling error, both trains were using the same track on a day when three of the four tracks on the line were closed for maintenance. Their combined speeds were so great that the trains exploded on impact, killing at least 290 people. Collision The crash occurred at about 1:45a.m. on 2August, 1999, when the Avadh Assam Express from New Delhi collided with the Brahmaputra mail at Gaisal railway station, Uttar Dinajpur, West Bengal, 19 kilometers from Kishanganj. Through a signaling error at Kishanganj, the Avadh Assam Express from Delhi was transferred onto the same track as the mail train. No one on either train or in the signals and station master's office noticed the error. The 15909 / 15910 ''Avadh Assam Express'' is an Express train belonging to Indian Railways – Northeast Frontier Railway zone that runs between Dibrugarh railway station of Dibrugarh, Assam and Lalgarh Junction of Bikaner, Rajasthan in India. At present it currently holds the record for being the longest daily running train in India covering 3116 km in almost 65 hours 50 mins (~3 days). The train is often delayed due to its lengthy route.
