Carson Parks
Clarence Carson Parks II (26 April 1936 – 22 June 2005), also known as C. Carson Parks, was an American songwriter, music publisher, musician and singer, best known for writing the hit song "Somethin' Stupid". His younger brother is the composer Van Dyke Parks. Early life and career Parks was born in Philadelphia, the son of a psychiatrist. Carson's early musical training began as a student at the internationally acclaimed American Boychoir School (formerly known as The Columbus Boychoir School). After attending Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, the University of Miami and then Carnegie Mellon University, he began working in Los Angeles. In 1959, with college friend Bernie Armstrong, he formed the Steeltown Two and first recorded for the small Gini label. The duo also worked as one half of a reformed version of Terry Gilkyson's band, The Easy Riders, and in 1960 they performed on the soundtrack of the John Wayne film '' The Alamo''. Rare Silk
Rare Silk was an American vocal jazz group that was active during the 1980s. MaryLynn Gillaspie and her sister, Gaile, grew up in southern California. Their father played trumpet, and from an early age they heard big band music and Ella Fitzgerald. In 1978, they were working as waitresses in Boulder, Colorado, with Gaile also singing at a local club. After they met another singer, Marguerite Juenemann, they formed Rare Silk. They sang on a local radio station and in clubs, sometimes dressed like the Andrews Sisters. In 1980, they were the opening act for Benny Goodman at the 1980 Playboy Jazz Festival. They recorded their first album, ''New Weave'', in 1983. This album was nominated for two Grammy Awards. It was followed by ''American Eyes'', which was released in 1985, and ''Black and Blue'', in 1986. Juenemann left the group and was replaced by Barbara Reeves and then by Jamie Broumas. Gaile Lai (), born Lai Ga Yi () on 22 August 1980, better known as Gaile Lok, is a Hong Kong actress and model. She was born in Macau to a Chinese father and a Vietnamese mother. Gaile studied in the United States. Background Gaile Lok is of Chinese-Vietnamese descent as her mother is Kinh Vietnamese. She was born in Macau but grew up in USA. Ieva Gaile (born 26 January 1997) and her twin sister Kristine Gaile are Latvian figure skaters. She was born in Jelgava, Latvia, where she started her skating career at the age of 4. After two years she changed her coaches and started training in Ventspils, Latvia. She mainly skates in the ladies singles category, but in 2012 she and her twin sister were part of Latvian Synchronized skating Synchronized skating is an ice skating sport where between 8 to 16 skaters perform together as a team. Iluta Gaile
Iluta Gaile (born 10 December 1968) is a Latvian businesswoman, politician and former luger, who competed at four Winter Olympic Games. She is a former deputy for Riga City Council. Personal life Gaile was born in Cēsis, Latvia SSR (now Latvia), and grew up in Stalbe. As of 2017, Gaile lived in Sigulda. As a teenager, Gaile trained on the Cēsis track. Sporting career Gaile competed in the luge event at four Winter Olympic Games. She finished 10th in 1992, 17th in 1994, 14th in 1998, and 10th in 2002. In 1988 and 1989, she came third in the USSR national championships, and in 1990, she came second in the event. Inga Gaile
Inga Gaile (born 29 June 1976, in Riga, Latvia) is a Latvian poet, novelist, and playwright. Biography Gaile has written poetry collections for adults and children. Her works often focus on feminist issues as well as issues related to different stigmatised groups. She has won the Latvian Literature Award and the Poetry Days Festival prize.
