Gail McGrane
Gail McGrane (née Gail Pirie: born 1975) is a television weather forecaster, previously the senior forecaster for BBC Scotland. Born in Dingwall, Ross-shire, McGrane attended Dingwall Academy before moving to Glasgow to attend the University of Strathclyde. She took a job at the Met Office in 1999 and began presenting breakfast weather reports in 2000, before moving to ''Reporting Scotland'' in early 2009. She has appeared as a weather consultant on several BBC Scotland productions. Early life and education McGrane was born in Dingwall, Ross-shire in 1975 and educated at Dingwall Academy. She moved to Glasgow, where she received an honours degree in geography and an MSc in environmental studies from the University of Strathclyde. She studied for one year at the University of Iowa in the United States, as part of her third-year studies. Dingwall, Ross-shire
Dingwall ( sco, Dingwal, gd, Inbhir Pheofharain ) is a town and a royal burgh in the Highland council area of Scotland. It has a population of 5,491. It was an east-coast harbour that now lies inland. Dingwall Castle was once the biggest castle north of Stirling. On the town's present-day outskirts lies Tulloch Castle, parts of which may date back to the 12th century. Bill Giles (meteorologist)
William George Giles OBE (born 18 November 1939) is a retired British weather forecaster and television presenter. Early life Bill Giles was born in Dittisham, near Dartmouth, Devon, England, and first became interested in meteorology whilst at Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School in Crediton . He joined the Met Office in January 1957 on leaving Bristol College of Science and Technology (became the University of Bath in 1965). Career From 1961 to 1963, he was based in Germany as an observer with the RAF and from 1968 to 1970, worked as a lecturer at the Met Office's training college. His broadcasting career began in 1972 when he transferred to the London Weather Centre. In 1980, promotion took him back to Bracknell where he worked in public relations. Victoria Park, also known as the Global Energy Stadium for sponsorship reasons, is an all-seater football stadium in the town of Dingwall, Highland, Scotland. It is the home ground of Ross County, who currently play in the Scottish Premiership. History Victoria Park has a greater capacity than the population of Dingwall, which was 5,491 at the 2011 census. However the County of Ross and Cromarty from which the club draws much of its support has a population of over 60,000. Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS), formally known as Children's Hospice Association Scotland, is a registered charity that provides the country's only hospice services for children and young people with life-shortening conditions. The first hospice was built thanks to the late editor-in chief of the Daily Record and Sunday Mail, Endell Laird, who launched a reader appeal which raised £4million. CHAS offers children’s hospice services, free of charge, to every child, young person and their families who needs and wants them. CHAS was formed in February 1992 by a group of professionals and parents of children with life-shortening conditions who had travelled to England for hospice care. ''Beechgrove'' (formerly known as ''The Beechgrove Garden'') is a television programme broadcast since 1978 on BBC Scotland. Over the years it has been broadcast on BBC Scotland, BBC One Scotland, BBC Two Scotland and Britbox. History ''Beechgrove'' is a gardening programme, which started on 14 April 1978. It was inspired by the garden behind the home of WGBH in Boston, Massachusetts, named the Victory Garden. The original plot of land used was the small area of garden attached to the BBC studios in Beechgrove Terrace, Aberdeen. Due to its small size, the programme's popularity and the fact the garden had been transformed several times over, a new area of ground to the west of Aberdeen was acquired for the programme by Tern Television who have produced the series since 1992. ''Landward'' is a long-running Scottish television programme focusing on agricultural and rural issues, produced and broadcast by BBC Scotland. Overview BBC Scotland had first produced its own farming programme, ''Farm Forum'', in 1965. This was broadcast on a monthly basis as an opt-out from the BBC's ''Farming'' programme, in order to concentrate on issues relevant to Scottish farmers. In 1976 an increase in the output of farming and rural affairs programming led to the introduction of ''Landward''. STV is a Scottish free-to-air public broadcast television channel owned and operated by the STV Group. It is made up of the Central Scotland and Northern Scotland Channel 3 public broadcaster licences, formerly known as Scottish Television (now legally STV Central Ltd) and Grampian Television (now legally STV North Ltd) respectively.
