Gaelcholáiste Dhoire
The Gaelcholáiste Dhoire is a multi-denominational, 11–19, all-ability, coeducational, Irish-medium, post-primary school in Dungiven, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. It is located inside Dungiven Castle. History The college was established in 2015. It is the second Irish medium post-primary school to be established in Northern Ireland. In 2012, before planning and purchasing of land for the school in Dungiven, Diarmaid Ua Bruadair (Principal of Gaelcholáiste Dhoire) and his colleagues reportedly tried to purchase land from the then-recently deestablished Maghera High School, which had closed in 2009, however this fell through. Dungiven () is a small town, townland and Civil parishes in Ireland, civil parish in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. It is near the main A6 road (Northern Ireland), A6 Belfast to Derry road, which bypasses the town. It lies where the rivers River Roe (Northern Ireland), Roe, Owenreagh and Owenbeg meet at the foot of the Benbradagh. Nearby is the Glenshane Pass, where the road rises to over . It had a population of 3,346 people in the United Kingdom census, 2021, 2021 Census. It is within Causeway Coast and Glens district council area. History There is evidence of settlement in the area for at least 1000 years. The Boviel Wedge cairn is located two miles east of Dungiven. Excavations in 1938 uncovered cremated bones from the Neolithic period, pottery sherds, scrapers, an arrowhead and a polished stone axe. There may have been an abbey in the area around 700AD. Dungiven Castle is a 19th century castle in Dungiven, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. Plantation of Ulster In 1610 James I ordered the Great Twelve Livery Companies to undertake the settlement, or plantation, of the Ulster counties of Londonderry and Tyrone. Of the livery companies, the Great Twelve Livery Companies are: The lands to be settled were divided into lots. The Skinners' Company drew lot number 12. Its lands came to be known as the Manor of Pellipar. They, in turn, leased their estate to Sir Edward Doddington in 1616 who built a castle in Dungiven of "22 foot broad, four stories high whereof some part of the walls were standing before; and is now by him well finished and slated". Robert Emmet's Gaelic Athletic Club Slaughtneil () is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based on the townland of Slaughtneil, near Maghera, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. The club is a member of Derry GAA and competes in Gaelic football, hurling and camogie. The club is named after Irish patriot and revolutionary Robert Emmet and the club plays its home games at Emmet Park. Slaughtneil have won the Derry Senior Football Championship six times and the Derry Senior Hurling Championship 18 times. Maghera High School
Maghera ( ; ) is a small town at the foot of the Glenshane Pass in Northern Ireland. Its population was 4,235 in the 2021 census. Formerly in the barony of Loughinsholin within the historic County Londonderry, it is today in the local-government district of Mid-Ulster. History One mile north of the town is a single-chamber megalithic tomb known as Tirnony dolmen. The portals surrounding the tomb are five feet tall. The town dates back at least to the 6th century to the monastery founded by Saint Lurach whose family were possibly evangelised by Saint Patrick. The ''Annals of Ulster'' say that the seat of the Cenél nEoghain was at Ráth Luraig in Maghera.
