Gabriele Possanner
Gabriele Possanner (27 January 1860 – 14 March 1940) was the first female doctor to practice medicine in Austria. Biography She was the daughter of the Austrian jurist Benjamin Possanner, and lived in six different cities until the age of twenty due to him moving often for his work. In October 1880 he was appointed as Section Chief at the Imperial Treasury in Vienna, and the family, including Gabriele, was able to settle in Vienna. As a doctor, Possanner initially worked as a public medical officer in Bosnia-Herzegovina, where Muslim women refused to be seen by male doctors. She had been given a medical degree by the University of Zurich in 1894, but it was not until 1897 that she was able to take the ''viva voce'' examination a second time, this time in front of Viennese examiners, thus qualifying her to practice as a doctor in Austria. Edith Saurer
Edith Saurer (20 August 1942 – 5 April 2011) was an Austrian historian, university professor at the University of Vienna, scientific author, and publisher. She is regarded as a central cofounder and advocate of feminist historiography in Austria. She received the Käthe Leichter Prize, Gabriele Possanner State Prize, and the Golden Medal for her services to the State of Vienna. Early life and education Edith Saurer was born on 20 August 1942 in Vienna. From 1960, she studied history, German language, and theater studies at the University of Vienna, earning a Ph.D. in 1966 with the work, ''Die politischen Aspekte der Bischofsernennungen in der Habsburgermonarchie 1867–1903'' ("The political aspects of episcopal appointments in the Habsburg monarchy 1867-1903"). Ina Wagner
Ina Wagner (born 1946) is an Austrian physicist, computer scientist and social scientist. She is an emeritus professor of computer science at TU Wien (Vienna), where she was active from 1987 until 2011. Wagner completed a doctorate in nuclear physics at the University of Vienna in 1972. In 1979 she received her habilitation in education sciences from the University of Klagenfurt, and in 1998 completed a second habilitation in "multidisciplinary design and computer-supported cooperative work" in Vienna. In 1987 she became the TU Wien's second ever female professor and the first to be appointed from outside the university, and led the ''Institute for Design & Assessment of Technology'' until her retirement in 2011. In 2011 Wagner received the Gabriele Possanner State Prize, an award given by the Austrian science ministry for gender studies, and the city of Vienna's Women's Award.
