''Global Underground 028: Nick Warren, Shanghai'' is a DJ mix album in the Global Underground series, compiled and mixed by Nick Warren. The album peaked at #14 on the ''Billboard'' Top Electronic Albums. Though Warren was inspired by the Shanghai scene, the album's music came from producers of thirteen different nationalities. Warren's 2003 Reykjavik mix was supposed to be his last for Global Underground. Disillusioned with the non-stop DJing treadmill, he had planned to settle in the studio and focus on his Way Out West production work, yet was constantly being asked when his next GU installment would appear. He was also frustrated by the lack of a platform for some of the unsigned music he was regularly being given by new producers from around the world, so he agreed to do “one more” GU mix, with the focus on showcasing new talent and a wider range of music than his Icelandic mix. Nick Warren
Nicholas John Warren (born 24 October 1968) is an English DJ and record producer. He is best known as a member of the electronic music duo Way Out West, his record label and global live events brand, The Soundgarden, and for his albums released in the Global Underground series. He is also head of A&R for the record label Hope Recordings. Biography In 1988, Nick Warren began DJing in Bristol, playing mainly reggae music, reggae and indie music until house music became more popular in the UK. By the early 1990s, Warren had become one of the more popular DJs in Bristol, performing regularly at the superclub Vision and DJing for Massive Attack. While working at a record store in 1994, Warren met producer Jody Wisternoff and the two decided to work together. James Alexander Goodale Holden (born 7 June 1979) is a British electronic music artist and DJ. After beginning his career as a DJ and producer, Holden has moved extensively into live performance and founded his own record label Border Community. Early career Holden grew up in Market Bosworth, Leicestershire, before studying mathematics at Oxford University. He started his career in 1999 at age 19 and swiftly gained wider recognition with the release of trance single "Horizons", which he created with the freeware software Buzz. This "crossover anthem of the summer of 1999" was picked up by Pete Tong, John Digweed and Nick Warren, quickly propelling Holden to a wider audience. Way Out West are an English electronic music duo comprising Jody Wisternoff and Nick Warren. Originating in Bristol, England, they rose to fame in the 1990s with their UK-charting singles " The Gift" and "Ajare", and their debut studio album '' Way Out West'' was released in 1997 to critical and commercial success. SJ Esau is the music project of Sam Wisternoff, an experimental pop musician from Bristol, England. Although ostensibly a solo project, Wisternoff is often joined by the drummer Sean Talbot and has incorporated a variety of other musicians into recording projects and live performances.
