GPA Gaelic Team Of The Year
The GPA Gaelic Team of the Year known for sponsorship reason as The Opel Gaelic Team of the Year awards were an awards ceremony to honour the performances of Gaelic Athletic Association players. The awards were judged and awarded by the Gaelic Players Association. In 2011 the GAA and GPA announced that their respective annual player awards schemes were to merge under the sponsorship of Opel. The first merged awards were given out in 2011. Gaelic Athletic Association
The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA; ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael ; CLG) is an Irish international amateur sporting and cultural organisation, focused primarily on promoting indigenous Gaelic games and pastimes, which include the traditional Irish sports of hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, Gaelic handball and rounders. Limerick GAA
The Limerick County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael, Coiste Chontae Luimneach) or Limerick GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Limerick. The county board is also responsible for the Limerick county teams. The county hurling team are the current All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship (SHC) title holders, and have the fourth highest total of titles, behind Kilkenny, Cork and Tipperary. Ronan Curran
Ronan Curran (born 26 February 1981) is an Irish hurling manager and former hurler who played for Cork Senior Championship club St Finbarr's. He is the current manager of the Kanturk senior hurling team. Curran played for the Cork senior hurling team for 10 years, during which time he made a record number of appearances as a centre-back. Described as the outstanding centre-back of the decade, his half-back-line partnership with Seán Óg Ó hAilpín and John Gardiner is regarded as one of the greatest of all time. Dónal Óg Cusack
Dónal Óg Cusack (born 16 March 1977) is an Irish hurling coach and hurler who plays for Cork Premier Championship club Cloyne. He played for the Cork senior hurling team for 16 seasons, during which time he usually lined out as a goalkeeper. Noted for his innovative and sometimes controversial approach as a player and his championing of the cause of player welfare, Cusack is also regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers of his generation. Cusack began his hurling career at club level with Cloyne. Martin Comerford
Martin Timothy Comerford (born 9 November 1978) is an Irish hurler who played as a centre-forward for the Kilkenny senior team. Born in London, at an early age Comerford went to St. John's Boys' National School in Ballybough Street, Kilkenny. Comerford went on to attend St. Kieran's College but was overlooked for the hurling team. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty-one when he first linked up with the Kilkenny under-21 team. He joined the senior panel during the 2001 championship. Comerford later became a regular member of the starting fifteen, and won six All-Ireland medals, eight Leinster medals and four National League medals on the field of play. Henry Shefflin
Henry Shefflin (born 11 January 1979) is an Irish hurling manager and former player who is the current manager of the Galway senior hurling team. In his playing career he was nicknamed "King Henry" because of his directive style, dominance, competitive spirit and leadership on the field. A versatile forward who started out in the corner, Shefflin made his name in more commanding positions as a centre or full-forward. Andrew O'Shaughnessy (hurler)
Andrew O'Shaughnessy (born 30 November 1984 in Kilmallock, County Limerick) is an Irish sportsperson. He plays hurling with his local club Kilmallock and was a member of the Limerick senior inter-county team from 2002 to 2011. Biography Andrew O'Shaughnessy was born in Kilmallock, County Limerick in 1984. Dan Shanahan
Daniel Shanahan (born 4 January 1977) is an Irish former hurler. He has been a selector with the Waterford county team since 2013. Born in Lismore, County Waterford, Shanahan was introduced to hurling by his father, a former hurler with Waterford. He was a Harty Cup runner-up with Lismore CBS while simultaneously enjoying championship successes at senior level with the Lismore club. Shanahan made his debut on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first linked up with the Waterford minor team. Oliver Moran (born 7 November 1975 in Castleconnell, County Limerick) is an Irish sportsperson. He plays hurling with his local club Ahane and was a member of the Limerick senior inter-county team from 1997 to 2009. Edward Joseph Brennan (born 2 October 1978) is an Irish hurling manager and former player. His league and championship career with the Kilkenny senior team lasted twelve seasons from 2000 until 2011. Brennan was the manager of the Laois senior hurling team from 2019 to 2020. Brennan played competitive hurling in his final year at St Kieran's College, having earlier come to prominence as a dual player at minor levels with the Graigue–Ballycallan club. James "Cha" Fitzpatrick (born 31 January 1985) is an Irish hurler who played as a midfielder for the Kilkenny senior team.
