Greater Ministries International
Greater Ministries International was an Evangelical Christian ministry that ran a Ponzi scheme in an affinity fraud that had taken nearly 500 million dollars from 18,000 people by the time it was shut down by federal authorities in August 1999. Headed by Gerald Payne in Tampa, Florida, the ministry bribed church leaders around the United States. Payne and other church elders promised the church members double their money back in 17 months or fewer, citing Biblical scripture. However, nearly all the money was lost and hidden away. Church leaders received prison sentences ranging from 12 years to 27 years. The group had ties to Stayton, Oregon-based Embassy of Heaven, run by Glen Stoll, which was later closed by the Justice Department. Their group founded a newspaper, the "Greater Bible College" in Tampa, a line of "Greater Live" herbal remedies, cancer treatments ("We actually pull the cancer right out of your stomach", Payne claimed.), a supplement called "Beta 1, 3rd Glucan" (to ...

Complex Regional Pain Syndrome
Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is any of several painful conditions that are characterized by a continuing (spontaneous and/or evoked) regional pain that is seemingly disproportionate in time or degree to the usual course of any known trauma or other lesion. Usually starting in a limb, it manifests as extreme pain, swelling, limited range of motion, and changes to the skin and bones. It may initially affect one limb and then spread throughout the body; 35% of affected people report symptoms throughout their whole bodies. Two types exist: reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD) and causalgia. Having both types is possible. Classification The classification system in use by the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) divides CRPS into two types. It is recognised that people may exhibit both types of CRPS. Signs and symptoms Clinical features of CRPS have been found to be neurogenic inflammation, inflammation resulting from the release of certain proinflammat ...

Global Precipitation Measurement
Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) is a joint mission between JAXA and NASA as well as other international space agencies to make frequent (every 2–3 hours) observations of Earth's precipitation. It is part of NASA's Earth Systematic Missions program and works with a satellite constellation to provide full global coverage. The project provides global precipitation maps to assist researchers in improving the forecasting of extreme events, studying global climate, and adding to current capabilities for using such satellite data to benefit society. GPM builds on the notable successes of the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM), which was also a joint NASA-JAXA activity. The project is managed by NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, and consists of a GPM Core Observatory satellite assisted by a constellation of spacecraft from other agencies and missions. The Core Observatory satellite measures the two and three dimensional structure of Earth's precipitation patterns and prov ...

Global Militarization Index
The Global Militarization Index (GMI) is an annual report produced by the Bonn International Centre for Conflict Studies (BICC) which measures the relative position of nations' and regions' peacefulness. It is financially supported by German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. The first GMI was published in 2006. GMI covers 154 states and is widely used to study military economies of different countries and compare them. It focuses on three major indicators: personnel, expenditures, and weapons. Measurement The index uses a number of indicators. * People Index Score: contrast between the number of military and paramilitary forces with the overall population and the number of physicians * Military Expenditure Index Score: comparison of military expenditures with GDP and health care exprenditures * Heavy Weapons Index Score: number of heavy weapons available per capita. Countries In 2022, the top of the index looks as follows: See also *Global Pea ...

Global Microbial Identifier
The genomic epidemiological database for global identification of microorganisms or global microbial identifier is a platform for storing whole genome sequencing data of microorganisms, for the identification of relevant genes and for the comparison of genomes to detect and track-and-trace infectious disease outbreaks and emerging pathogens. The database holds two types of information: 1) genomic information of microorganisms, linked to, 2) metadata of those microorganism such as epidemiological details. The database includes all genera of microorganisms: bacteria, viruses, parasites and fungi. Technology For genotyping of microorganisms for medical diagnosis, or other purposes, scientists may use a wide variety of DNA profiling techniques, such as polymerase chain reaction, pulsed-field gel electrophoresis or multilocus sequence typing. A complication of this broad variety of techniques is the difficulty to standardize between techniques, laboratories and microorganisms, which ...

Giant Magnetoimpedance
In materials science Giant Magnetoimpedance (GMI) is the effect that occurs in some materials where an external magnetic field causes a large variation in the electrical impedance of the material. It should not be confused with the separate physical phenomenon of Giant Magnetoresistance. The phenomenology of the GMI GMI is caused by the penetration length that is a measure of how deep an ac electrical current can flow inside an electrical conductor. The penetration length (also known as the skin-depth effect) increases with the square root of the electrical resistivity of the material and is inversely proportional to the square root of the product of the magnetic permeability and the frequency of the ac electrical current. Thus, in materials with very high values of magnetic permeability, such as soft-ferromagnetic materials, the penetration-length can be much less than the thickness of the conductor even for moderate values of frequencies driving the current near the surface of ...

The team approached Newsfield in 1990 to take over the publication after Croftward Publishing ceased trading. Newsfield added the word International to the title. With the knowledge of its former circulation and advertisement income history, Newsfield decided to launch the magazine on a low budget, and the first issue hit newsstands in July 1990. However, the gaming market was in deep recession and both circulation and advertisement in ...
