G-Unit Records
G-Unit Records is an American record label, owned by Universal Music Group. Founded in 2002 by rapper 50 Cent, for the first eleven years of operation, G-Unit ran in conjunction with, and was distributed by, Interscope Records. In February 2014, distribution switched to Caroline Records and Capitol Music Group. G-Unit Records has a subsidiary label G-Note Records, which caters to R&B and pop. G-Unit (short for Guerilla Unit) was an American Hip hop music, hip hop group formed by longtime friends and East Coast hip hop, East Coast rappers 50 Cent, Tony Yayo, and Lloyd Banks. After amassing a string of self-released mixtapes in the early 2000s, the group released their debut album ''Beg for Mercy'' in 2003, which went on to ship over four million copies in the US and was certified RIAA certification, quadruple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). During Tony Yayo's imprisonment in 2003, the group recruited Tennessee-based rapper Young Buck as a temporary replacement and later an official member. Young Buck
David Darnell Brown (born March 15, 1981), best known by his stage name Young Buck, is an American rapper. He heads his own record label, Cashville, and was a member of the former hip hop group G-Unit. Early life Brown was born in Nashville, Tennessee. Around the age of 12, he began rapping. A few years later, he performed for Brian "Baby" Williams, co-founder of Cash Money. Music career Young Buck joined Cash Money in 1997 but left for Juvenile's UTP in 2000. He released two albums with UTP, '' Born to Be a Thug'' and '' The Compilation'', before leaving the label in 2003 to join 50 Cent's record label G-Unit. ''XXL'' is an American hip hop magazine, published by Townsquare Media, founded in 1997. History In August 1997, Harris Publications released the first issue of ''XXL''. It featured rappers Jay-Z and Master P on a double cover. In December 2006, ''XXL'' took over the struggling hip-hop producer and DJ magazine '' Scratch'' (another publication owned by Harris Publications), re-branding it as ''XXL Presents Scratch Magazine''. Mobb Deep was an American hip hop duo from New York City. The duo consisted of rappers Prodigy and Havoc. They are considered to be among the principal progenitors of hardcore East Coast hip hopEdwards, Paul, 2009, ''How to Rap: The Art & Science of the Hip-Hop MC'', Chicago Review Press, p. 323. and hip hop in the mid-1990s. Mobb Deep became one of the most successful rap duos of all time, having sold over three million records. ''Straight Outta Cashville'' is the debut studio album by American rapper Young Buck, released on August 24, 2004 by G-Unit Records and Interscope Records. Background ''Straight Outta Cashville'' title alludes to the N.W.A album, ''Straight Outta Compton'', and is a neologism for Nashville, (Buck's hometown). Curtis Williams (born January 19, 1976), more commonly known as Spider Loc, is an American rapper and actor. He was formerly signed to Interscope Records and 50 Cent's G-Unit Records. Biography Spider Loc was discovered by Suge Knight and tagged along with Death Row Records, which appears on the Dysfunktional Family soundtrack, and Kurupt Against tha Grain under the name "Spider", but never signed an agreement. In September 2004 Spider Loc met rapper Young Buck in Atlanta and performed for him. Originally scheduled for a May 25, 2004 release, the album was ultimately released on June 29, 2004 as later planned.
