Fígols
Fígols is a municipality in the ''comarca'' of the Berguedà in Catalonia, Spain. It is situated to the north of Cercs, in the mountains above the Llobregat valley. Deposits of lignite are extracted commercially. Nearby is the Cercs Mine Museum. The guerrilla leader Ramon Vila Capdevila - last of the Spanish Maquis, who held out from the end of the Spanish Civil War The Spanish Civil War ( es, Guerra Civil Española)) or The Revolution ( es, La Revolución, link=no) among Nationalists, the Fourth Carlist War ( es, Cuarta Guerra Carlista, link=no) among Carlists, and The Rebellion ( es, La Rebelión, link ... until being killed in 1963 - is buried in Fígols. Ramon Vila Capdevila
Ramon Vila Capdevila (; 2 April 1908 – 7 August 1963), sometimes known by various nicknames, including ''Caracremada'' (Catalan: "burnt-face"), was a Catalan anarchist, member of the ''Confederación Nacional del Trabajo'' (Spanish: National Confederation of Labor), and guerrilla fighter. Early life Vila was born in 1908 in a small village called Peguera in the ''comarca'' (roughly translated as "county") of Berguedà, Catalonia. When he was very young, Vila was nearly struck by lightning, which gave him the facial scars which earned him the nickname ''Caraquemada''. The lightning strike killed his mother, who was hiding with him from a storm. In 1932, after participating in a workers' insurrection, Vila was imprisoned in Manresa and held for a few years. In the period between his release and the start of the Spanish Civil War in 1936, Vila moved around constantly for fear of harassment by the "Special Branch". Cercs
Cercs is a municipality in the ''comarca'' of Berguedà in Catalonia. It is situated on the right bank of the Llobregat river above the Baells reservoir. It is the site of an important power station which burns the lignite extracted at Fígols and Saldes. The town is served by the C-1411 road between Berga and the Cadí tunnel. The Pre-Romanesque church of Sant Quirze de Pedret is the source of two painted ''conjunts'', which are now displayed at the diocesan museum in Solsona and in the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya in Barcelona. The remains of the monastery of Sant Salvador de la Vedella are visible on a hill now in the middle of the Baells reservoir. Montmajor
Montmajor is a municipality in the comarca of Berguedà, Catalonia. Geography Montmajor is made up of four distinct enclaves, quite separated from one another. The principal area of the municipality lies east of the town of Navès, which is in the comarca of Solsonès. The northernmost enclave is ''Catllarí'' (5.45 km²), which is surrounded by the municipalities of Fígols, Castellar del Riu, and Guixers. Berguedà
Berguedà () is an inland comarca (county) in Catalonia, Spain, lying partly in the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees, and partly in the Catalan Central Depression. Geography The northern half of Berguedà, known as Alt Berguedà (“Upper Berguedà”), consists of the upper Llobregat Valley and the mountainous areas surrounding it. Its northern border is a veritable mountain barrier: Berguedà is separated from Cerdanya by a chain of 2,000-meter peaks. These include the mountain ranges of Cadí, Moixeró, Puig d' Alp and Puigllançada. Castellar del Riu is a Municipalities of Spain, municipality in the Comarques of Catalonia, comarca of Berguedà, Catalonia, northern Spain. Vallcebre
Vallcebre is a municipality in the comarca of Berguedà, Catalonia. It comprises two towns: ''Vallcebre'' proper, and the village of ''Sant Julià de Fréixens''. History The town was first documented in the year 893, when it was mentioned as ''Balcebre'' in a document describing the consecration of the Cathedral of la Seu d'Urgell. By 983, a castle existed in the town, of which there is no trace today. The municipality in former times was controlled in part by the Abbot of Bagà and the barons of Peguera. By the 15th century, it had become part of the possessions of the Foix family. Culture The parochial church is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, the patroness of the town, and is of relatively recent origin, having only been constructed in 1931. The Cercs Mine Museum ( ca, Museu de les Mines de Cercs) is a museum dedicated to coal mining, located in the Sant Corneli colony, in the Cercs municipal area, in the region of El Berguedà. Gósol
Gósol is a village and municipality located in the northwest of the comarca of Berguedà in Catalonia, in the Pyrenees. It is within the confines of Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park, to the west of Pedraforca. Gósol is the only municipality in Berguedà which is in the province of Lleida rather than that of Barcelona. It is also a party to the Judicial district of La Seu d'Urgell. Geography The present town is centered in the eponymous valley of Gósol, which is enclosed by the Serra del Cadí and Pedraforca, in the Pyrenees.
