Cercs
Cercs is a municipality in the ''comarca'' of Berguedà in Catalonia. It is situated on the right bank of the Llobregat river above the Baells reservoir. It is the site of an important power station which burns the lignite extracted at Fígols and Saldes. The town is served by the C-1411 road between Berga and the Cadí tunnel. The Pre-Romanesque church of Sant Quirze de Pedret is the source of two painted ''conjunts'', which are now displayed at the diocesan museum in Solsona and in the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya in Barcelona. The remains of the monastery of Sant Salvador de la Vedella are visible on a hill now in the middle of the Baells reservoir. Cercs Mine Museum
The Cercs Mine Museum ( ca, Museu de les Mines de Cercs) is a museum dedicated to coal mining, located in the Sant Corneli colony, in the Cercs municipal area, in the region of El Berguedà. It is a technology and history museum that describes the relationship between coal and the geological environment, the landscape, the economy and the people of L’Alt Berguedà. Founded in 1999, it is part of the Science and Technology Museum of Catalonia and of the Barcelona Provincial Council Local Museum Network. Berguedà
Berguedà () is an inland comarca (county) in Catalonia, Spain, lying partly in the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees, and partly in the Catalan Central Depression. Geography The northern half of Berguedà, known as Alt Berguedà (“Upper Berguedà”), consists of the upper Llobregat Valley and the mountainous areas surrounding it. Its northern border is a veritable mountain barrier: Berguedà is separated from Cerdanya by a chain of 2,000-meter peaks. These include the mountain ranges of Cadí, Moixeró, Puig d' Alp and Puigllançada. In this area the population is centered mainly in the Llobregat Valley and the valleys of the rivers Bagà, Bastareny and Saldes. Fígols
Fígols is a municipality in the ''comarca'' of the Berguedà in Catalonia, Spain. It is situated to the north of Cercs, in the mountains above the Llobregat valley. Deposits of lignite are extracted commercially. Nearby is the Cercs Mine Museum. Berga
Berga () is the capital of the ''comarca'' (county) of Berguedà, in the province of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. It is bordered by the municipalities of Cercs, Olvan, Avià, Capolat and Castellar del Riu. History Berga derives its name from the ''Bergistani,'' an Iberian tribe which lived in the area before the Roman conquest. The Bergistani were first subdued by Hannibal in 218 BC. Vallcebre is a municipality in the comarca of Berguedà, Catalonia. It comprises two towns: ''Vallcebre'' proper, and the village of ''Sant Julià de Fréixens''. History The town was first documented in the year 893, when it was mentioned as ''Balcebre'' in a document describing the consecration of the Cathedral of la Seu d'Urgell. By 983, a castle existed in the town, of which there is no trace today. The municipality in former times was controlled in part by the Abbot of Bagà and the barons of Peguera. La Quar
La Quar is a small town and municipality located in the comarca of Berguedà, in Catalonia. The municipality consists mostly of isolated farmhouses, with a few small settlements. The traditional center of the municipality was Santa Maria de la Quar, located on an easily defended rocky outcropping, but today it has no permanent residents and the center of the municipality has become Sant Maurici de la Quar, on the main road.
