Fur Patrol
Fur Patrol is a rock band, originally from Wellington, New Zealand. The band formed in Wellington in 1996. Their debut EP, ''Starlifter'', was released on the independent Wellington label Wishbone in 1998. Their debut album ''Pet'' was produced by David Long, and was released in 2000, also on Wishbone Records. ''Pet'' featured the single " Lydia" which reached number one on the New Zealand singles charts. The band scooped the pool at the 2001 Tui New Zealand Music Awards, walking away with four Tuis. In 2001 the band moved to Melbourne, Australia where they signed their first major record deal, with Universal Music Australia. Their second album, Collider, was released in New Zealand in 2003 and Australia in early 2004. The album, produced by British producer Mark Wallis and recorded in Melbourne's Sing Sing studios, was a move away from the catchy, more radio-friendly pop sound of ''Pet''. Lydia (Fur Patrol Song)
"Lydia" is a song by New Zealand band Fur Patrol from their debut studio album, ''Pet'', released in 2000. Written by lead vocalist Julia Deans, the song is about a woman who observes that her ex-lover is in a new relationship with another woman—Lydia. The song spent 19 weeks on the New Zealand Singles Chart, peaking at number one on 24 December 2000. In 2001, it was voted the 19th best New Zealand song of all time by APRA. The song also won two awards at the 2001 New Zealand Music Awards: Single of the Year and Best Songwriter (awarded to Deans). "Lydia" was released in Australia on 18 March 2002 but did not chart. Julia Deans
Julia Mary Deans (born 27 August 1974) is a New Zealand singer-songwriter best known as the lead singer of rock band Fur Patrol. Banshee Reel In the early '90s Deans joined Wellington-based Celtic rock band Banshee Reel. The group released two albums – ''Culture Vulture'' (1993) and ''An Orchestrated Litany of Lies'' (1995). Banshee Reel toured extensively around New Zealand and overseas. In 1996, after returning to New Zealand from a Canadian tour, Deans and Wellington guitarist Steve Wells decided to form a rock group, which was to become Fur Patrol. David Long (New Zealand Musician)
David Long is a musician, composer and producer. In 2020 he won best score at the APRA Silver Scrolls for the BBC drama series, The Luminaries. He composes mainly for film and television but also contemporary dance. He has worked on all of Peter Jackson’s films of the last two decades. He performs with two bands, The Labcoats (two albums) and Teeth (one album). In 2021 he composed the score for the feature film, Punch and a dance show for Tupua Tugafua as well as composing for two more series of Mystic. In late 2021 he is releasing an album for small ensemble. In 2020 he composed (with Steve Gallagher) the score for the CBBC series, Mystic. He also composed for Sean MacDonald's dance show Ngā Wai for Atamira Dance Company. Tony Cohen
Anthony Lawrence Cohen (4 June 19572 August 2017) was an Australian music record producer and sound engineer. He worked with Nick Cave's groups the Birthday Party, and then the Bad Seeds from 1979 to 2001. In mid-1986 he had followed Cave to London and then onto Berlin, in January 1987, to continue to work on their material. At the ARIA Music Awards of 1994 Cohen won Producer of the Year for The Cruel Sea's second album, '' The Honeymoon Is Over'' (May 1993). At the 1995 ceremony he won Producer of the Year and Engineer of the Year for the Cruel Sea's '' Three Legged Dog''. Cohen had been a long-term alcohol and drug user, his health deteriorated in the 2010s and he died in 2017 at Dandenong Hospital, aged 60. The Official New Zealand Music Chart ( mi, Te Papa Tātai Waiata Matua o Aotearoa) is the weekly New Zealand top 40 singles and albums charts, issued weekly by Recorded Music NZ (formerly Recording Industry Association of New Zealand). The Music Chart also includes the top-20 New Zealand artist singles and albums and top 10 compilation albums. ''Pet'' is the debut album by New Zealand rock band, Fur Patrol, released on 24 September 2000. Chart performance ''Pet'' debuted on the New Zealand Albums Chart on 29 October 2000 at number fourteen, before peaking the next week at number seven. After six weeks in the chart, it slipped out of the top fifty. The release of the second single, " Lydia", prompted the album to re-enter the chart at number forty-four on 17 December 2000. ''Pet'' spent a total of thirty weeks in the chart. Singles ''Pet'' spawned five singles. "Now" and "Holy", the album's first two singles, were not commercially successful, failing to appear on any record chart. The third single, " Lydia", went to number-one on the New Zealand Singles Chart on 24 December 2000, succeeding "Independent Women Part I" by Destiny's Child.
