"Lydia" is a song by New Zealand band Fur Patrol from their debut studio album, ''Pet'', released in 2000. Written by lead vocalist Julia Deans, the song is about a woman who observes that her ex-lover is in a new relationship with another woman—Lydia. The song spent 19 weeks on the New Zealand Singles Chart, peaking at number one on 24 December 2000. In 2001, it was voted the 19th best New Zealand song of all time by APRA. The song also won two awards at the 2001 New Zealand Music Awards: Single of the Year and Best Songwriter (awarded to Deans). "Lydia" was released in Australia on 18 March 2002 but did not chart. Fur Patrol
Fur Patrol is a rock band, originally from Wellington, New Zealand. The band formed in Wellington in 1996. Their debut EP, ''Starlifter'', was released on the independent Wellington label Wishbone in 1998. Their debut album ''Pet'' was produced by David Long, and was released in 2000, also on Wishbone Records. ''Pet'' featured the single " Lydia" which reached number one on the New Zealand singles charts. The band scooped the pool at the 2001 Tui New Zealand Music Awards, walking away with four Tuis. In 2001 the band moved to Melbourne, Australia where they signed their first major record deal, with Universal Music Australia. Their second album, Collider, was released in New Zealand in 2003 and Australia in early 2004. The album, produced by British producer Mark Wallis and recorded in Melbourne's Sing Sing studios, was a move away from the catchy, more radio-friendly pop sound of ''Pet''. Recorded Music NZ (formerly the Recording Industry Association of New Zealand (RIANZ)) is a non-profit trade association of record producers, distributors and recording artists who sell recorded music in New Zealand. Helen Young (radio Manager)
Helen Agnes Young (22 March 1926 – 2 August 2019) was a New Zealand radio manager and an advocate for New Zealand music performers and composers. Born in Hāwera on 22 March 1926, Young was the daughter of Agnes Isabel Young (née Bartholomew) and Andrew Morton Young. She was educated at St Cuthbert's College, Auckland, and later went to London, where she studied at the Royal College of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. After working at the music library of the British Arts Council and the British Institute of Recorded Sound, she returned to New Zealand. She was manager of RNZ Concert for 12 years between 1978 and 1989, and worked for Radio New Zealand for 35 years in all. In the 1987 Queen's Birthday Honours, Young was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire, for services to broadcasting, and she received the award for "Outstanding Contribution to Broadcasting" at the 1990 New Zealand Radio Awards. Christchurch City Libraries
Christchurch City Libraries is operated by the Christchurch City Council and is a network of 21 libraries and a mobile book bus. Following the 2011 Christchurch earthquake the previous Christchurch Central Library building was demolished, and was replaced by a new central library building in Cathedral Square, ''Tūranga'', which opened in 2018. Early history The library began as the Mechanics' Institute in 1859, when 100 subscribers leased temporary premises in the then Town Hall. The collection consisted of a few hundred books. By 1863, with the help of a grant from the Provincial Government, the Mechanics' Institute opened a building on a half-acre of freehold land on the corner of Cambridge Terrace and Hereford Street, purchased the year before at a cost of £262.10.0. ''Pet'' is the debut album by New Zealand rock band, Fur Patrol, released on 24 September 2000. Chart performance ''Pet'' debuted on the New Zealand Albums Chart on 29 October 2000 at number fourteen, before peaking the next week at number seven. After six weeks in the chart, it slipped out of the top fifty. The release of the second single, " Lydia", prompted the album to re-enter the chart at number forty-four on 17 December 2000. ''Pet'' spent a total of thirty weeks in the chart. Singles ''Pet'' spawned five singles. "Now" and "Holy", the album's first two singles, were not commercially successful, failing to appear on any record chart. The third single, " Lydia", went to number-one on the New Zealand Singles Chart on 24 December 2000, succeeding "Independent Women Part I" by Destiny's Child.
