Friedrich Wilhelm Niepelt
Friedrich Wilhelm Niepelt (10 November 1862 in Striegau – 26 May 1936) was a German entomologist specialising in Lepidoptera. Niepelt was an insect dealer in Zirlau (located near Świebodzice). He is commemorated with insects having the specific epithet of ''niepeltiana'', an example being '' Phragmatobia niepeltiana'', a moth species circumscribed by Embrik Strand in 1919. Striegau
Strzegom (german: Striegau) is a town in Świdnica County, Lower Silesian Voivodeship, in south-western Poland. It is the seat of the Gmina Strzegom administrative district (gmina). It lies approximately north-west of Świdnica, and west of the regional capital Wrocław. As of 2019, the town had a population of 16,106. History Middle Ages Traces of settlement on the site during the Roman Empire period have been found. In the Middle Ages it was a fortified settlement under the rule of a castellan, founded in the 10th century, as part of Piast Poland, first mentioned in a deed issued by Pope Hadrian IV in 1155, confirming the boundaries of the Wrocław diocese. Its name is of Polish origin and comes either from the words ''strzec'' ("guard"), ''strzyc głowy'' ("cut hair") or ''trzy góry'' ("three mountains"). Åšwiebodzice
Åšwiebodzice (; szl, Frybork; german: Freiburg) is a town in south-western Poland with 22,793 inhabitants (). It is situated in Åšwidnica County, Lower Silesian Voivodeship (from 1975–1998 it was in the former WaÅ‚brzych Voivodeship). The town is situated close to Książ Castle, which during World War II, together with the cave complex, was expanded to create private quarters for Adolf Hitler. The town dates back to the medieval Kingdom of Poland. It was granted town rights by 1279. During World War II, the Germans established a subcamp of the Gross-Rosen concentration camp in the town. Moth
Moths are a paraphyletic group of insects that includes all members of the order Lepidoptera that are not butterflies, with moths making up the vast majority of the order. There are thought to be approximately 160,000 species of moth, many of which have yet to be described. Most species of moth are nocturnal, but there are also crepuscular and diurnal species. Embrik Strand
Embrik Strand (2 June 1876 – 3 November 1947) was an entomologist and arachnologist who classified many insect and spider species including the greenbottle blue tarantula. Life and career Strand was born in Ã…l, Norway. He studied at the University of Kristiania (now University of Oslo). Around 1900 he focused on collecting insect specimens from Norway. These are now deposited at the university's museum, where he worked as a curator from 1901 to 1903. After studying at the University of Oslo Strand traveled in Norway from 1898 to 1903 collecting a great number of insects. For part of this time (1901–1903) he was a conservator in the museum of zoology of the university. He then left for Germany where he continued his studies of zoology at the University of Marburg (1903), then he worked with State Museum of Natural History Stuttgart (1905) and, later, that of Tübingen and then with Senckenberg Museum in Frankfurt. Papilio
''Papilio'' is a genus in the swallowtail butterfly family, Papilionidae, as well as the only representative of the tribe Papilionini. The word ''papilio'' is Latin for butterfly.
