CHAY-FM is a Canadian radio station in Barrie, Ontario broadcasting at 93.1 FM. The station airs a Rhythmic-leaning CHR format, using its on-air brand name as ''Fresh 93.1''. The station is owned by Corus Entertainment. History CHAY signed on the air originally with a hybrid easy listening/beautiful music format on May 21, 1977, but changed to more of an adult contemporary format the following decade with the decline of beautiful music on FM radio. The station was initially broadcast from a 1,000 foot tower just south of Barrie that it had shared with local television station CKVR-TV. On September 7 of that year, a small plane crashed into the tower, destroying the building and killing everyone on board. CKRU-FM (100.5 MHz) is a commercial radio station in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. It broadcasts a hot adult contemporary format. CKRU-FM is owned by Corus Entertainment and is branded as ''100.5 Fresh Radio''. History The station signed on the air in 1942. The call sign was CHEX and it was an AM station at 1430 kHz. It is Peterborough's oldest radio station. In 1959, it added a television station, CHEX-TV on Channel 12. CHEX moved to 980 kHz in 1958. The station was an affiliate of CBC Radio's Dominion Network until 1962. In 1968, an FM station was added at 101.5, which today is CKWF-FM. CHEX became CKRU in 1992. CKWS-FM is a Canadian radio station, broadcasting at 104.3 FM in Kingston, Ontario. The station airs a hot adult contemporary format branded on-air as ''104.3 Fresh Radio''. The station is owned by Corus Entertainment, which also owns CFMK-FM and CKWS-DT. History The station was launched in 1942 as CKWS, a CBC Trans-Canada Network affiliate taking over CBC responsibilities from Queen's University radio station CFRC. When CKLC launched, it became affiliated with the CBC's Dominion Network while CKWS remained with the main CBC network. Broadcasting on 960 AM, CKWS was owned by Allied Broadcasting, a partnership of Roy Thomson and Rupert Davies, owner of the ''Kingston Whig-Standard'' newspaper. CFLG-FM is a Canadian radio station, which broadcasts at 104.5 FM in Cornwall, Ontario. The station airs a hot adult contemporary format branded as ''104.5 Fresh Radio''. History The station was launched in 1957 by the city's daily newspaper, the ''Cornwall Standard Freeholder'', with the call sign CKSF-FM. The newspaper also already owned AM sister station CKSF. Two years later, the stations were acquired by Stanley Shankman, the owner of CJSS-TV, and both changed their callsigns to CJSS as well. Two years later, Shenkman sold his broadcast holdings. Kingston is a city in Ontario, Canada.
