French Division 3 (1971–1993)
The French Division 3 was the third tier in the French football pyramid, after the Division 1 and Division 2, from 1971 to 1993. Although it was succeeded by the Championnat National 2, the Championnat National became the new third division. History In 1971, the Division 3 replaced the previous version of the Championnat de France Amateur. In contrast to the former CFA, the D3 permitted the best amateur clubs to be promoted to the Division 2. It became an "open" league, meaning it was open to professional, semi-professional, and amateur clubs. Rapid Omnisports de Menton is a French association football club founded in 1916. They are based in the town of Menton and their home stadium is the Stade Lucien Rhein. The Olympique Lyonnais Reserves & Academy are the reserve team and academy of French club Olympique Lyonnais. The reserves squad play in the Championnat National 2, the fourth division of French football and the highest division the team is allowed to participate in. Lyon have won the reserves title of the Championnat de France amateur six times. They have won in 1998, 2001, 2003, 2006, and 2009, and 2010. The U-19 squad participates in their weekly league, the Championnat National Under-19, which is a league comprising four groups of fourteen clubs who play each other twice during the regular season. Club Sportif Sedan Ardennes, commonly referred to as CS Sedan or simply Sedan (), is a French association football club based in Sedan.
