Fred Jackman
Fred Wood Jackman Sr. (July 9, 1881 – August 27, 1959), was an American cinematographer and film director of the silent film, silent era. He worked on 58 films as a cinematographer between 1916 and 1925. He also directed eleven films between 1919 and 1927, including two film serials for Hal Roach, Hal Roach Studios. He was born in Iowa and died in Hollywood, California. His son, Fred Jackman Jr. was at one time married to Nancy Kelly, who had been a child actress in silent films. His brother Floyd Jackman (1885 - 1962) was a cinematographer who worked on numerous silent films, including some early Laurel and Hardy shorts. Plot In 1874 Montana, Native Americans attack a group of settlers, leaving a young Dave Carson and a colt named Rex as the only survivors. Rex is tortured by two Indians, but he escapes. The two later grow up, with Rex becoming a stallion who tramples Indians to death and acquiring the nickname "The Devil Horse." Carson becomes an army scout who is stationed at a fort commanded by Major Morrow. Carson and the Major's daughter Marion meet at a creek but, a group of Indians led by Prowling Wolf kidnaps Carson in a failed attempt to kidnap Marion to make her his wife, but she escapes. ''Black Cyclone'' is a 1925 American silent Western film directed by Fred Jackman featuring Rex the King of Wild Horses. Plot As described in a film magazine review, Rex, a wild horse of the plains, pays court to The Lady, an aristocratic mare, but loses her when they meander into the valley where Joe Pangle holds reign with his herd of horses. Pangle puts up a fight and conquers Rex. Rex retreats to a stream and gets caught in some quicksand. He is rescued when Jim Lawson aids the horse from the waters using his own hands. That night Rex drives off a pack of wolves that had attacked Lawson, and Rex later fights off a mountain lion to save the man's life.
