Fred Frith Trio
The Fred Frith Trio is a San Francisco Bay Area based experimental music and free improvising group featuring Fred Frith, Jason Hoopes and Jordan Glenn. They were formed in Oakland, California in 2013, released two studio albums on Intakt Records in 2016 and 2018, and toured Europe in 2015 and 2017, and Brazil in 2018. Canadian music critic Raul da Gama described the Fred Frith Trio as " ree extravagantly creative musicians employed in making music like we’ve never heard before". '' DownBeat'' magazine critic Peter Margasak said they are "a scrappy improvising trio" who "deftly" revisit many of Frith's musical endeavors in "a gritty, unified attack". Andy Robson wrote in the British monthly, ''Jazzwise'' that they "conjure improvised soundscapes that defy definition". Susana Santos Silva (born 3 January 1979 in Porto, Portugal) is a Portuguese jazz and free improvisation musician (trumpet, flugelhorn, and flute). Biography Santos studied jazz trumpet at the Music College in Porto until 2008 and then the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe with Reinhold Friedrich, Edward Tarr, Klaus Schuwerk and Klaus Braker, subsequently Jazz Performance at the Rotterdam Conservatory (Diplom 2010), where she played with Eric Vloeimans, Jarmo Hoogendijk and Wim Both. ''The New York City Jazz Record'' is a monthly New York City based publication that includes features, reviews and concert announcements regarding jazz music. All Is Always Now – Live At The Stone
''All Is Always Now – Live at The Stone'' is a 2019 three-CD box set of live improvised music performed by English guitarist Fred Frith with other musicians, including Theresa Wong, Ikue Mori, Pauline Oliveros and Laurie Anderson. It was recorded between 2007 and 2016 at The Stone in New York City, and was released in March 2019 by Intakt Records in Switzerland. Frith performed in 80 concerts at The Stone between 2006 and 2016 and Intakt called this collection "A decade-long adventure in improvisation". The titles of the songs are derived from ''The New York Times'' headlines on the day of each performance. The box set's liner notes are a 24-page booklet written by Frith, which includes an interview with Frith conducted by one of the performers, Theresa Wong. Lotte Anker
Lotte Anker (born 1958 Copenhagen) is a Danish jazz saxophonist, and composer. With pianist Marilyn Crispell, she serves as one of the co-leaders of the Copenhagen Art Ensemble. Musical career Anker studied music at the Copenhagen University from 1980 to 1984. In 1988, she formed a quartet with piano player Mette Petersen, (the Lotte Anker / Mette Petersen Quartet). In 1992, they added trumpeter Nils Petter Molvær. In 1995, she became a member of the free improvising trio Anker, Friis, Poulsen with Hasse Poulsen on guitar and Peter Friis Nielsen on bass. ''Road'' is a 2021 double-CD live album by the Fred Frith Trio, an experimental music and free improvising group featuring Fred Frith (guitar), Jason Hoopes (bass) and Jordan Glenn (drums). It is their third album and their first live release. The album was recorded in Charlottesville, Virginia and Germany in October 2019, and was released in October 2021 by Intakt Records in Switzerland. ''Road'' also includes two guest musicians, Lotte Anker (saxophone) and Susana Santos Silva (trumpet). Anker and Santos Silva had previously performed with the trio on several occasions: Anker in New York and San Francisco, and Santos Silva in Brazil. Karl Lippegaus (born 28 October 1954 in Cologne) is a German music journalist, author and radio presenter. Life and career Lippegaus studied German literature, musicology and philosophy at the universities of Bonn and Cologne after making his debut with a jazz broadcast on Miles Davis on Südwestfunk at the age of seventeen.
